Dr. Bryan Watts

Bryan Watts is the Mitchell A. Byrd Professor of Conservation Biology and Director of The Center for Conservation Biology (CCB) at William & Mary. Bryan has worked with many bird species since elementary school and has worked with osprey for more than 35 years. He continues to have an interest in several osprey topics including diet, the influence of provisioning on sibling aggression and brood reduction, population response to fish abundance, male time budgets, osprey ecology within estuaries and behavioral indicators of population stability.

Michael Academia

Michael Academia is the manager and outreach coordinator for the OspreyWatch program. He is very passionate about and dedicated to ospreys and citizen science. He won the 2022 William Andersen Award at the International Raptor Research Conference for his research involving ospreys and Atlantic menhaden in the lower Chesapeake Bay. He continues to conduct research on the relationship between osprey and menhaden.

Barbara Slatcher

Barb has been working with the Center since 2010, assisting in various strategic marketing and outreach projects. She managed eagle and falcon cams, including building a large following on the Richmond Eagle Cam in partnership with the Richmond Times Dispatch. She has managed the OspreyWatch project launch, outreach, PR and social media since 2012. She has represented CCB with the Virginia Master Naturalists on several projects and taught the raptor class with the Riverine chapter. Barb also is a wildlife rehabilitator, with a specialty in all birds.

Marie Pitts

Marie Pitts is the operations manager for The Center for Conservation Biology (CCB) at William & Mary. Marie manages the OspreyWatch data archive and website. She is the contact person for data issues including data use agreements.

Northside Jim

Entrepreneur, webmaster, software engineer, and expert on collaborative databases. He is a passionate advocate for endangered coastal birds, and a prominent nature writer and photographer. He is the creator of the NestStory software.

Jim has served as the CEO of The Cyrus Company for 30 years and is a founding board member of The Little Egg Foundation.
