June 3, 2012. Back at the Little League field--a lot of activity going on up on the field light post! Mom Osprey was in the nest with 2-3 babies--too high up to be sure of the number. The mom would call out for the dad until he showed up with food. As soon as he circled overhead the babies went crazy cheeping. The first time he brough a fix, which the mom carefully fed the 2 (or 3) chick. The second time (were were there there for a doubleheader--5 1/2 hours), he brought another fish, which the mom ate, then fed some to the chicks. The third time he brough a live mouse. After he landed in the nest he jumped up and down and attacked it till it died, then HE ate it. Unfortunately, forgot my binoculars today. This was more fun that the ballgames!
On May 6, 2012 saw an adult sitting in the nest--but too high to see IN the nest. On May 8, 2012 around 7 pm. an adult female flew over the baseball field with a huge fish in her talons toward the nest. About 10 minutes later, the male followed.
