Ospreys have returned - there were two in nest last night. A juvenile and adult eagle came by and the ospreys chased them away.

Kayak group paddled underneath nest. Two adults were on nest, then both flew off. Could speculate that one was feeding a chick or chicks, but could not confirm.

Was a bit worried as the female seemed all alone in the next - male did not return until well after dark. On 2 May was able to observe male and female transfer night duty. Female when relieved from next about 8pm flew to a nearby pine and male settled down onto eggs.

The female osprey is incubating. The male hovered around the nest for a good portion of the afternoon and took several short trip up and down the creek. At one point, a third osprey appeared and approached the nest. The birds on the nest chipped and squawked and the osprey departed the area. Early that morning, an eagle knocked a fish from the male osprey clutch and the eagle retrieved it from the water. This has been seen on several occasions.

April Fools Day - no joke, the ospreys are copulating.
