adult male at nest perch into mid September

08/30/2023 by baygirl
still seeing fledgling and adult male but ending monitoring data to be able to complete the many nests data before end of Sept cutoff. At James Farm where most years there average 8 active nests with 14-15 fledglings there were just 2 fledglings off 9 active nests, where is the fish?

05/15/2021 by baygirl
on nest watch this coming week, hatchlings are soon due,

04/25/2021 by baygirl
incubating in spite of more and more people walking way out to that marsh site

04/22/2021 by baygirl
nest nice and high, one incubating in high winds today

03/27/2021 by baygirl
one on nest at 1:30 today,

03/23/2021 by baygirl
placed a new predator guard on platform pole today, cone predator guard rusted and was laying in the marsh, no ospreys seen nearby today

09/13/2020 by baygirl
ad male in tree near nest today

09/04/2020 by baygirl
one juvie perched on nest all afternoon, sometimes crying softly for a fish, lots of other osprey flying around the area and some fishing in the cove but this youngster stayed on the nest

07/03/2020 by baygirl
2 chicks with mombrella today

06/20/2020 by baygirl
observed feeding at 7:30 pm, still no chick count

06/07/2020 by baygirl
feeding observed at 4 pm today

04/14/2020 by baygirl
not sure of incubation, male flew to nest with fish and appeared to remain with female at nest, possibility of eggs, will check back next few days

06/29/2019 by baygirl
consistently seeing just 2 chicks

06/29/2019 by baygirl
consistently seeing just 2 chicks

06/03/2019 by baygirl
lots of feeding and shading but no chick count as of today

05/10/2019 by baygirl
one deep in nest, switch out then with mate, watched one fishing, bring fish to tree

05/04/2019 by baygirl
native plant sale day at the farm, this pair is far from the beach action and remained in the nest incubating the entire time I monitored the cove from 9-2 pm

03/19/2019 by baygirl
one osprey off and on the nest today

08/23/2018 by baygirl
2 juveniles flying over the water and to the treeline where they perch for this nest

08/18/2018 by baygirl
2 juveniles sitting together on the nest today, crying for fish, yesterday i saw the adult male catch a fish in the cove and take it to a tree and the juvenile made a beeline for him, crying that he wanted that fish PLEASE! it has been good conditions to watch the young practicing fishing in the cove, they haven't been too successful but sure are trying hard.

08/03/2018 by baygirl
still seeing the fledglings and adult male in the trees but have not seen adult female recently, today just one fledge in the far tree at 5pm

07/24/2018 by baygirl
both chicks coming and going to the nest today with one self feeding around 3:30 pm and one adult seen

07/22/2018 by baygirl
i am certain these 2 chicks have flown before today just by their size and coloring but today at 4 pm was the first both were over in the trees near the platform with one adult flying around keeping an eye on them.

07/20/2018 by baygirl
2 chicks seen today with both adults, still have not confirmed a fledge although i was watching for about 3 hours today as i am a docent and was on the beach and then back later via boat.

07/05/2018 by baygirl
one chick seen again today with one adult on nest and second adult flying around the nest

07/04/2018 by baygirl
only one chick seen today. my boat was anchored off this marsh area for a few hours and did not see more than one chick even during feeding. one chick was lost somehow.

06/25/2018 by baygirl
I reserve the right to change the chick count to 3..., I just think there should be 3... but so far I am clearly seeing 2 chicks. This evening before dusk both adults were on the nest with the 2 visible chicks.

06/17/2018 by baygirl
seeing lots of activity, shading, feeding and at least one chick but can not get a good enough view for a positive head count

06/03/2018 by baygirl
took a few days after 5-23-18 to confirm feeding but the behavior of the female was hunched, not flat and deep and she was very fussy and calling for food. i finally saw the feeding and since the pair has been very busy and consistent at the nest. since i am a docent at the farm i am watching this pair often.

05/23/2018 by baygirl
pretty sure there is at least one hatchling, the female looked to be finishing up eating and feeding when i entered the cove via my boat, then she was up and down in the nest and never rocked into the nest bowl but was hunched in the nest the entire time I was in the cove watching the 4 platforms with osprey.

05/21/2018 by baygirl
looked as if one was incubating today and did not see the mate

05/19/2018 by baygirl
should be chicks soon. we have had 7 days of rain. today it was raining when I watched this osprey deep in the nest, too much rain to really tell if there are new chicks. did not see mate today but the female was most likely in the nest as she was calling for fish.

05/05/2018 by baygirl
monitored for the plant sale visitors to day and this pair is lucky to be so far from the foot traffic at the nearby beach. they are not disturbed and continue to incubate

04/16/2018 by baygirl
raining, poor vis, damp 61 degrees with SSW winds at 18 mph. around 1:00 today one very deep in the nest clearly incubating.

04/07/2018 by baygirl
past few days both have been on the nest when I walk the trails of the farm. no signs of incubation, lots of ospreys hanging out on the winds above the beach area.

04/02/2018 by baygirl
First day to see any birds at this platform. The female was calling for the male who arrived about 15 minutes later and he did a fly around and snatched some nest material for her before he landed at the platform as if he just needed to bring her something. Soon the local Bald Eagle appeared and flew past the duo and they let out a warning call. The BE continued on toward the IR bridge.

09/21/2017 by baygirl
end of season- this family dispersed pretty quickly after the chicks fledged. I did get a report from the homeowner that he had a pair of great horned owls living in the woods near the nest and the owls liked to sit on his swimming pool steps.... I saw the juveniles in the trees a few times and saw the adult female bring a fish to the nest on 8-17-17 which was the last day I recorded seeing any juveniles. I saw the adult male in the pine tree on 9-14-17.

06/22/2017 by baygirl
Male brought fish to nest and as female began to feed one chick was visible

06/08/2017 by baygirl
can not see chicks at this location unless I get close with kayak and too much wind and rain lately so for now I just hike within binocular distance and I see feeding behavior and no human distrubance

05/25/2017 by baygirl
hatchlings due but have not been able to see anything except one osprey deep in the nest, hope to confirm something this weekend

04/24/2017 by baygirl
incubating with no disturbance because this platform is away from the high density area of james farm beach, lucky birds

04/15/2017 by baygirl
they are spending time on the nest with one at the tree line at times but have not seen copulating or bonding behaviors

04/07/2017 by baygirl
2 osprey at the nest today, one on the nest and one on the snag guard tree. I think we have a pair! last year they didn't stick around, perhaps they are mature and ready to have a family this year....

04/06/2017 by baygirl
past week an osprey has visited this nest, not yet sure if there is a pair on the nest buy may well be.

12/23/2016 by baygirl
little activity on this nest site this past 2016 season. I hope the pair returns and nests for 2017. I am aware though that the homeowners who moved the platform onto county land chip golf balls over the platform. This may not make for happy osprey adults or successful nesting...stay tuned!

05/20/2016 by baygirl
Since I check James Farm regularly I do keep an eye on this nest platform. Usually there is a bird either on it or in the nearby trees. They are not incubating and I bet they are sub adults. Today both osprey were on the nest pretty much just hanging out enjoying their amazing real estate:)

05/08/2016 by baygirl
While there have been pairs on all 4 James Farm beach/marsh platforms I think this pair is probably sub adult. They are off and on the nest and seem to be disturbing their nextdoor neighbors at #6042 (83IB)

04/22/2016 by baygirl
The pair from nearby #6042 (83 IB) has been visiting this platform and spent most of today on this slightly more private and newly located nest site. There was a man flying a kite close to their original platform (83IB) so perhaps they moved over to this one for safety. So no incubating yet!

04/06/2016 by baygirl
This platform has been in the marsh just north of James Farm platforms for a few years and it remained unoccupied. HomeOwners moved the platform down closer to water and added nest material. It has been attracting a few birds but so far no permanent takers.
