Nesting Diaries
no geese on nest as of today, no ospreys seen
goose on nest again this season
A Canada Goose is nesting in the osprey platform near my deck. Papa hangs out on my dock. The heron sleeps there - they sometime share the dock.
2 osprey chicks fledged July 11, 2019.
Good flyers.

Canada Goose again hatched several goselings in this nest early this spring. I was unable to see the eggs to count them. As soon as they hatched, they disappeared. We usually see them almost adult size at a later date. No viewing yet
Single chick finally fledged on July 24th, 2018.
Both parents and chick soaring around - chick returns to nest at night. Parents in nearby trees.
About May 28 the osprey began sitting up on nest and today, for the first time, I can see one chick that she is feeding. There may be another but I haven't seen a second one. Male bringing them food and sitting up in nearby pine tree.

Pair of osprey attempted to settle on platform #6160 at 110 Vines Creek [2 houses down], but were chased out by a pair of Canada Geese about 2 weeks ago. So osprey are building up nesting material and settling on platform #6159 at 106 Vines Lane [off my deck]. Two males were vying for female's attention, but one was chased off. Mating activity seen. Not sitting on eggs yet. Nancy
16 July: 2 new photos of last chick to fledge. 1. spreading out wings to cool body. 2. looking "all grown up."
Chicks getting bigger, back of neck browning, body and wing feathers brown and spotted.
Adult on nest (female?) cries when I come out on deck. Mate in tree nearby flies overhead. One on nest keep peeping. When other flew off, she followed him. They circled awhile then 'changing of the guard". Opposite one on nest and other flew off - presumable to feed for herself.
2 chicks have more mature feathers and mottled coloring. I adult up on edge of nest and 1 bringing fish. I child larger than other.
2 fluffy chicks up in next periodically. Feeding well. Adults give alert call when I come out onto deck, but do not flush. One chick fluffs wings.
Finally able to observe at least 2 chicks in nest.
Parent bringing food. Changing of the guard in the early evening.
One bird on or in nest continuously, except when pair fighting off a third osprey that keeps coming around. One bird dropping small fish in nest. About 10:30 today one bird standing up with wings extended as if to shelter young from heat. Still unable to see chicks, if any.
Observed 'changing of the guard." Bird immediately nestled in on eggs or chicks. Unable to see if eggs have hatched. Adult still nestled down in nest but weather still cold.
April 16th is first date one osprey begin to sit long and low in the nest. It is still sitting most of the time. I am unable to see if there are any eggs.
5/10/2016 2 Bald Eagles fighting osprey for a fish. Both osprey chased them away.
5/12/2016 Osprey on nest, standing up more often. Male bringing food to nest regularly.
Nesting just began April 16, 2016.
10:30 a.m. watched the 'changing of the guard' - one osprey moved off nest, other settled on egg/s. Blue plastic has blown away.
