pair is on nest 125 this season as geese claimed this nest 126, arrived 3/24/23, inc 4/29/23, hatch around 05/26/23, 2 nestlings seen until 6/26/23, 1 fledgling 7/22/23

03/24/2022 by baygirl
goose nesting on platform, osprey male is fixing next door nest #125, lets see if the geese claim both platforms next year, sad.

07/09/2021 by baygirl
only 1 chick remains

06/27/2021 by baygirl

passed on boat today and one incubating, one flew to nest then off for a fish I presumed

04/03/2021 by baygirl
female arrived this morning, around 9 am, pair happily sharing a fish, 46, sun, NW 11 mph and should change to SW winds later today

03/28/2021 by baygirl
62, S 15 mph, overcast 7pm, just the male on nest

03/26/2021 by baygirl
82, S 20 mph, hot sun , 3:45, one osprey on nest perch

06/28/2020 by baygirl
chicks getting very big, one being fed today, 2 others obviously full and just enjoying the day

06/07/2020 by baygirl
3 growing chicks at feeding time today 12:30

05/24/2020 by baygirl
a few seasons back there was a male at this nest who would bring the fish to his mate and feed her and she in turn would feed her young. very sweet family activity that i had never seen with other adult male osprey. 2 years ago we assumed the pair did not arrive as the nest was empty later in the season than that original pair would arrive. 2 days ago i floated by on my boat to see the male at this nest once again feeding the female who was in turn feeding the chicks...this is amazing and i assume the same male at this nest for those past years as this is very unusual behavior. incredible to see these unique qualities in birds just like in people.

06/26/2019 by baygirl
this pair has really stepped it up with having 3 this season, all look very healthy

05/27/2019 by baygirl
shading

05/23/2019 by baygirl
one on nest rim, then got into nest and fussed with nest material and possibly turn eggs then down deep into nest but did not see the usual rocking motion

05/12/2019 by baygirl
one deep in nest in heavy wind and 2 day rain storm

04/13/2019 by baygirl
no incubation behavior observed but pair is doing well, building up nest

03/22/2019 by baygirl
both osprey o nest today but tussling with a third osprey, same situation as 2018

08/19/2018 by baygirl
adult female in pine tree to south of nest, the tree they use late in the season, no juvenile seen since 8-3-18, i fear something happened to it

08/12/2018 by baygirl
both adults seen today but have not seen juvenile since 8-3-18

08/03/2018 by baygirl
fledgling on nest rim with adult female today at 6:30 pm

07/20/2018 by baygirl
i think i saw the first flight today at 5 pm when 2 kayaks flushed the chick off the nest. momma flew first and went to the tree directly across from the nest and then the chick took off and flew around trying to land on different structures and trees and it was calling out excitedly to the adult who just watched it and after many attempts to land, momma, perhaps to guide it, decided to fly back to the tall and wide t perch on the platform and baby followed and awkwardly plopped down on it next to her. what a thrill to see, it never gets old watching osprey learn to fly.

07/05/2018 by baygirl
one spoiled chick getting shade and lots of food today with both adults on the nest

06/20/2018 by baygirl
well surprise surprise, this single chick is looking pretty big for a 4 week old but maybe it just looks so big since its the first time it was in full view on the nest. and it is getting plenty of food of course!

06/17/2018 by baygirl
a few days ago I saw no adults at the nest, then another day just the male on the nest perch, then another day the female was perched on the platform t perch and then flew off down the creek to chase an interloper and she went to a tree leaving the nest unattended. i honestly thought the nest had failed. And then today, just like last season, mom is back on the nest shading at least one chick, the adult male was in the shade tree down the creek that the prior (perhaps same) male used season past. every osprey is different and this female isnt much for coddling her young.

06/01/2018 by baygirl
female feeding at nest

05/21/2018 by baygirl
female was deep in the nest today and the male was busy guarding his territory and chased 2 ospreys away from the nest, one interloper almost landed on the female.

05/19/2018 by baygirl
just see the one incubating most days but did see the second eating a fish on platform #125. its been raining for days so I have not been able to get the boat out to see this nest clearly. From the road I see just the nest but not the second ospreys guarding areas.

05/08/2018 by baygirl
one incubating today

04/17/2018 by baygirl
one deep in the nest apparently incubating with the second on the platforms t perch. The nest is still quite small but after seeing it so top heavy the past few seasons this nest is just fine.

04/02/2018 by baygirl
both confirmed at the nest 3-30-18. Today jut the male on next door unused pplatform #125 but the nest looks great, much bigger.

03/29/2018 by baygirl
one osprey on the nest today, it appeared to be a male and it has been building up the nest.

03/25/2018 by baygirl
one osprey continues to spend some time at the platform and has built a tiny nest. an immature eagle has been hanging out on the platform too though and the homeowner is concerned that the ospreys wont use the cleaned up platform.I explained to him that there are still a large number of osprey that have not arrived for the nesting season and once an osprey pair starts to build a nest it sure doesnt take them long!

03/18/2018 by baygirl
one osprey bringing sticks to a newly empty nesting platform. platform was worked on by owner over the winter.

09/21/2017 by baygirl
I can not correct the "reason for failure" error once I became aware there was a chick in the nest. so hope this little one is counted this season. the adults were last seen near the nest on 8-22-17. a few days later the juvenile was perched in his shady spot and was very quiet. I think he was ready to fly south. he was well cared for!

08/05/2017 by baygirl
/lift off!!! beautiful sunny day, WNW wind at 14 mph, and the youngster flew over to the homeowners second inactive platform- #125. it spent a few hours there and then returned for dinner around 6 pm, mom was feeding it when I returned by boat.

07/28/2017 by baygirl
chick is looking big and active, hoping it flies very soon. i am worried the great horned owl might travel farther up the creek to this little one. adult female is very attentive though and I rarely see this chick alone on nest like so many others.

07/11/2017 by baygirl
I am unable to delete the reason for nest failure data, the nest did not fail.

07/11/2017 by baygirl
The single chick on this nest is just beautiful and appears to be about 5 weeks old. It is well fed but perches dangerously on the edge of a nest that is very flat and collapsing. fingers crossed.

06/29/2017 by baygirl
drove boat past nest today around 4 pm and I thought I saw a chick head pop up, the female was on the nest with the male guarding farther down the creek as he has been doing lately. Then around 8 pm I got a text from homeowner that he was mistaken and indeed there was one chick on the nest. the nest is not a fail, hmmm, funny I saw that head just today! I sent him a photo of the foster chick and he said it looked identical to the chick on his nest that he is just now seeing on the webcam! Darn ,had I known we might have used his nesting pair for the foster, just 2 chicks instead of 3. homeowner said he just didn't see the chick but it is about 19 days old :)

06/27/2017 by baygirl
Homeowner can not give me any timeline for the failed nest. he states he saw one egg in the nest and then nothing but has no dates in his memory. I rechecked my notes and noted chick feeding behavior on 6-11-17. The following day I noted both adults on the nest on a very hot day with temps over 90.6-17-17 I saw one adult on the nest but no feeding. The homeowner says he never saw a body of a chick or eggshells in the nest. It was simply empty. Since this is a new pair and we rarely saw the male bring fish we can assume starvation the cause of the chick death but cant be certain. With reports now of great horned owls I have to wonder....

06/21/2017 by baygirl
I received a text around June 19 that the hatchling had died. The homeowner has a webcam and although I had been monitoring the nest I saw chick feeding behavior for about one week but was not aware the chick had died as the female was still on the nest and the male nearby when I observed. I did not know there was just one hatchling. I am waiting for more information from the homeowner- how many eggs, how long the hatchling lived, what happened to it and any eggs remaining in the nest, what the weather was when it died etc. We are assuming the pair is a new pair this season and perhaps the adult male was not providing enough fish, but this is pure speculation and I hope to get more information soon.

05/17/2017 by baygirl
possible nest failure. I have not heard from the homeowner who has the webcam but I watched the pair for about 15 minutes today and female arrived to the nearby dock while the male was standing on the edge of the nest. Both osprey were hot, it was 90 degrees and very humid today. I thought perhaps the male was just getting off the eggs in the extreme heat but nothing happened in 15 minutes and I am thinking the rains last week may have caused egg failure...hope to hear from the homeowner soon. Will check the nest again tmr.

05/03/2017 by baygirl
I pulled up and saw one deep in the nest and then all hell broke loose. there was at least 4 osprey and 2 immature (approx. 2-3 yr old) bald eagles suddenly charging one another and I finally realized one osprey had a fish and was not giving it up to the young eagle! so the battle raged on for what seemed like 10 minutes until the second eagle got into the act more seriously and eventually an osprey dropped a fish low over the water. neither eagle could find the fish but they continued to harass and search for another 5 minutes or so while the osprey flew around complaining. once the eagles left the extra 2 osprey harassed the nest pair but eventually they were left alone and landed back on the edge of the nest. the male landed softly on the females back for just a second, I assume to say you are still mine and aren't we fabulous..and then she flew away presumably to get another fish and he settled deep on the nest, incubating! Later I contacted the homeowner to check his webcam and indeed there was now 1 egg in the nest. Its surprising that the entire time both osprey were off the nest defending their meal that nothing happened to the lone egg. Sure hope she lays a few more. We do think this is a new pair on this nest.

05/01/2017 by baygirl
pair was copulating today

04/26/2017 by baygirl
one osprey on 125 IB, the twin platform next door but no osprey on the nest. it looks like they have been fixing it tho-

04/24/2017 by baygirl
last check of this nest there was a bit more nest material but no signs of serious business, homeowner has a web cam and he said they seem to be a bit more settled now, at least:)

04/17/2017 by baygirl
settling in and building up the nest

04/04/2017 by baygirl
finally have 2 osprey on the nest. they appear to be very wary and not copulating or bringing nest material. possibly this is a new pair for this nest location.

04/02/2017 by baygirl
No osprey at this nest. Very unusual as years past the pair on this nest site arrived early and nested early. the homeowner placed a web cam for the nest and has been very concerned "his" osprey have not arrived yet.

12/26/2016 by baygirl
last female sighting was before 8-6-16 and last adult male sighting was on 8-15-16. Since this adult pair was first to arrive and incubate they are first out for the winter migration. This is one of my favorite nest sites to observe and I really love watching how well the adults work together. I hope they make it back for 2017. Their nest site is fairly safe although they do get bothered by kayakers and crabbing boats the landowner keeps a pretty good eye on them and when the webcam is working at the nest they really keep an eye on the family! However 2 new homes were constructed just next to the 2 nesting pilings so there may be more human disturbance in the summer 2017. if the same birds arrive they should be acclimated to life on White Creek.

07/17/2016 by baygirl
2 fledglings on the nest and one adult perched on a nearby boat at sunset.

07/15/2016 by baygirl
Fledglings are doing well. All 3 on nest this evening before sunset. Adult male on boat awning nearby. Did not see adult female today.

07/05/2016 by baygirl
Pontoon boat ride to check the nest and I see one fledgling up on the nest pole and a second fledgling flying over to a snag. Adult male arrives with a fish and both fledglings make a bee line to the nest. These babes are doing great, so much confidence so quickly. I do not always see that. Homeowner invites me in to see his webcam. Its very interesting but I prefer watching the larger picture of the nest from afar so that I can see what the adults and other birds in the general area are doing. So far it appears there may be 2 males and one female but I can not be 100% sure of that! Also I am still not certain all 3 have fledged but will check regularly to see if there is an empty nest at some point in a day with all 3 in sight nearby. No other osprey chicks on the creek are nesting close by and none are as old as this trio.

07/03/2016 by baygirl
Overcast day with light drizzle, 68, SW 6 mph, med vis. I drive by to check on the chicks and immediately I know.....I see one fledgling sitting up on the pole tower above the nest. It is sitting in the tentative posture of a newly fledge osprey chick! As I start to text the homeowner of the platform I see another chicks fly off the nest, do a quick fly around and land confidently back on the nest. This tells me this second chick fledged earlier and sure enough the homeowner texts that the first chicks fledge last evening after I had checked the nest. The third appears ready to fly as it is very active in the nest.

07/02/2016 by baygirl
Quick drive by to see if any chicks fledged. All 3 chicks currently on the nest with one adult and second adult arrives to pole above nest and it is carrying a fish.

07/01/2016 by baygirl
Adult female and 3 huge chicks all lined up on the nest watching and calling to the adult male that is on the pole perch directly above them. he is eating the head of a fish.

06/29/2016 by baygirl
The entire family is on the nest and all 3 chicks are fluffing their wings and exercising, hitting the adults in the head. pretty comical sight. the chicks should fledge very soon from the looks of 'em:)

06/11/2016 by baygirl
Noon today temp is 81 with female adult on the nest able to shade 2 of the big chicks but the third not shaded and appears very warm.

06/08/2016 by baygirl
Today saw the female eating and feeding one chick with just 2 chicks visible in the nest.

06/01/2016 by baygirl
Oh my goodness but the 3 chicks are getting so big.. especially comparing them to all the other nests! Tonight we took the boat by the nest and the female was feeding and shading 3 very active chicks. One has quite a bit of white feathering and is obviously the first born but the other 2 look very good and none appear to be a true runt. This platform has a webcam hooked up and it has not been working. Its a shame because it would be quite a show for the homeowner. heck I get a great show just cruising by with my binoculars. This osprey pair is my all time favorite. They amaze me. Everything seems to go like clockwork with them but I know it is their maturity, location and a bit of good fortune. I am told this is the third pair that has occupied the nest site in 30 years.

05/26/2016 by baygirl
Late afternoon we took the boat by this nest and saw both adults on the nest. One was feeding 3 growing chicks.

05/25/2016 by baygirl
Both osprey were on the nest this afternoon and one was feeding chicks. I was able to see at least one chick bobbing its head above the nest rim.

05/24/2016 by baygirl
Took the boat out to check the nest and momma was shading at least 2 very active little chicks. The male was busy with a comrorant that was way too close to the nest. The osprey continually dive bombed the water and most likely took some feathers off the cormorants head each time he came up for air. The poor cormorant didnt seem to know what to do to get away from the aggressive osprey.

05/20/2016 by baygirl
My first chick sighting today!!! Both adults were on the rim of the nest just sort of relaxing and suddenly I saw two little noddle heads floating up above the nest material. They bobbed up and down a number of times. Always exciting to see the first chicks of the season and it is usually at this nest!

05/18/2016 by baygirl
One bird flew onto nest with more nesting material and second bird placed it and fussed down deep in the nest.

05/15/2016 by baygirl
A nicer day today but a bit overcast. One osprey is down in nest very busy doing something while the other is flying overhead along with a third bird. Lots of chirping and kettling above the nest. Spreading the news of the chicks arrival perhaps:)

05/13/2016 by baygirl
It is pouring rain today. The bird in the nest is very busy fussing deep into the nest and also covering the chicks. I hope all survive the rain.

05/10/2016 by baygirl
Bird in nest does not appear to b incubating so I am certain the chicks have hatched. The bird in the nest is busy and continuously dips its head down into the nest.

05/09/2016 by baygirl
I observed chick feeding behavior this morning about 10:30 am. This pair has a unique (or different than I usually observe) behavior when the chicks are first hatched. The male once again this morning(just like last season) brought fish and tears bits off and gives it to the sitting female and she dips her head and feeds the chicks. I watched this activity this morning and it looked as if the female both fed a chick and was eating some bites. She did not move from her position the entire 20 minutes so I can only assume she has more eggs not hatched. I text the home owner because this platform has a web cam but unfortunately it is not operating now. I returned to the nest site around 4 pm and saw a 3rd bird fighting with the nesting pair! All birds were flying off and on the nest and leaving the nest unattended for a minute or more each time. This fight went on for about 5 minutes. My heart sank because this pair rarely has territory issues that I have witnessed. The female eventually flew back onto the nest and perched at the edge and then finally and gently settled back down into the nest. Her male mate had a fish in his talons for the entire fight and he still had the fish after peace was restored. He sat and ate while she sat deep in the nest. I returned about 2 hours later to see the female incubating (?) and the male arrived with a fish however she did not get up for the period of time I was there and he didn't appear to eat or feed. Time will tell if the eggs and chicks survived the platform challenge!

05/08/2016 by baygirl
This pair should have chicks any day now! I have been checking them daily since 5-5-16. Last year their first chick was born around Mother's day so I think it will be pretty close to that this year also. The male has been sitting on the nest next to the female and doesn't move except to get fish. He is very attentive. Maybe a chick has already been born but I haven't seen feeding behavior and I am really looking for it!

04/20/2016 by baygirl
Pair continues to share incubation duties and male provides fish. Private webcam is working on this platform and there are 3 eggs. Homeowner reports kayakers are pressuring the nesting pair by tying onto the piling and remaining at nest site for long periods of time. One kayaker even put her dog on owners private beach area while she watched the birds. Homeowner wants to put up a "Stay Back" sign.

04/06/2016 by baygirl
The pair continues to incubate eggs. There is new home construction very close to the nest site with a lot of outdoor activity. Should be interesting to see how this very seasoned pair does with increased human activity early in the nesting season.

03/31/2016 by baygirl
Pair appears to be incubating and may have been for a few days. High winds can cause birds to hunker deep down in nest but appears now to be on eggs as I observed birds switch incubating duties and that is unmistakable to witness how gently they lower over and rock onto eggs. Sometime in the past week the landowner placed new wood perch over the camera on the nest platform pole.

03/29/2016 by baygirl
This pair has been first to arrive to White's Creek for past 4 years observed.
