July 31-August 4 spent time at nest at dawn, mid-day and dusk. Fledge 2 finally took her wings the morning of August 4th. I had to head home to PA and returned back to Margate August 22-28. By the 28th appears that Fledge 2 had left the area as there was one fledge left. He sure looked like he wanted to go, but when I left August 28th, it appeared as though he wasn't going no matter how hard mom was trying to get him to fledge. I return September 12th - with hope of an empty nest and Fledge 3 has gone on his way south - Stay strong fledges from Nest 167-A-002. Mom and dad see you in Spring 2013. Will upadate any further data on Sept 13, 2012

Returned June 23 and with great joy nest has 3 chicks. Was out every morning and evening checking in on family until July 7th and anxiously anticipated my return on July 25th. How fast they grow - lots of wingercizing. Every morning and evening I'd return, and mom would give me a yell, then a fly over telling me she knew I was there, What an amazing sight. On July 26th I witness the oldest juvie wingercizing to it's hearts content and even caught some air over the nest. To my delight on July 27th I witnessed my first fledge, the oldest from this nest - What a thrill - my first fledge ever... and it was my Osprey Nest - Yeahhhh. Over the next few days there was a lot of wingercizing and fledging by #1 chick. On July 30th, first fledge had not come back to nest after leaving on 29th at the same time, on July 30th it appeared that the female (Mom) was stuck in the nest by what appeared to be fishing line. Photos show her in the same spot on the nest for 2 days, when she would normally be on different parts of the nest and also be flying during the day. She always did a fly over when I showed up to check things out, every single time. I knew at the point something wasn't right. There are photos. We also have dad flying off with a huge fish. On July 31st I had the unfortunate experience of finding the the first fledge who had flown into a utility pole close by the nest. I contacted the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ and then transported the Osprey to Ben Wurst. Upon return that day noticed mom still in same loccation - photos taken on August 1st showed that at one point she went over the side and was dangling but got herself back up. I contacted Ben Wurst again to let him know that there was an Osprey in distress and needed help. Later that day Ben arrived with his co-worker Kathy. Mom Osprey was still in the same location on the nest, and as Ben and Kathy got closer to the nest, the mom took off. seems as though she freed herself probably by picking at the line around her talon.

June 19, 2012 - back down the shore to my surprise Nest #2 has 2 chicks, Nest #3 has 1 chick and Nest #4 has 3 chicks. There may be more, it is difficult to see into the nests. Nest #1 is higher so do not know if there are any chicks. The pair at Nest 1 was consistently around the nest for the 2 1/2 weeks I was able to watch the nests. Through this time, I was out every day, standing being bitten by tons of green flys but I was bound and determined to get shots of everything. I can't pinpoint the hatching of these chicks, am assuming it was the 2nd week of June. I left on July 6th and all was safe and sound at the nests after a huge storm passed through. The nests were a little tassled, but I witnessed the pairs nestorizing and strengthening the nests back up. I am returning on July 25th with HIGH hopes that the chicks are still in the nest - wingercizing and will maybe fledge while I'm there for the week. Posting photos with dates is forthcoming.

Visiting all 4 nests today - Osprey were sitting at all nests except for Nest #3 where neither Osprey were present. Nest #1 was a single Osprey, Nest #2 was a single Osprey and Nest #4 was a single Osprey. When I walked closer to get better view of Nest #2 the Osprey took off towards me, vocalizing and circled for about 10 minutes. While watching this gorgeous creature I came across two eggs laying on the groung. Upon research the eggs are American Oystercatcher eggs. There was a pair not to far away from where I was standing.

4-20-12 - Still 4 visible nests, 3 on one side od road and 1 nest on other side close to Margate Bridge Toll Booths. 4-19-12 mating was observed at Nest #2 and on 4-20-12 mating was observed at Nest #1. Visual of one egg at Nest #2. At all times when visitng the nest area throughout the 4 day weekend all 4 pairs of Osprey were active. Not sure about incubation as of the 6 times visiting the nest area, only one time was there an Osprey who seemed like they were sitting on the egg.

It is very difficult to see into nests as they are out in the bay, and not low enough to see in, other than the one nest where you can see the egg.

Two chicks were hatched, banded on July 1, 2013 and fledged successfully.
