Nesting Diaries

Adults were on and around the nest when I arrived. The female is incubating. She was observed at on point down in the nest cup. The male (I assume), brought a fish (?) to the nest, although it kind of looked like a gooey blob.

06/30/2016 by CB
Two on nest. Not sure if the smaller in nest was a chick. After the bigger osprey left the nest giving a distress call, it circled the nest and left the smaller alone in the nest and then came back to the nest.

06/12/2016 by CB
When I approached nest female was on the nest but quickly flew away when she saw me. After I moved away from the nest, she flew back and began to settle on the nest again

04/27/2016 Female is incubating. She saw Jude and me and gave an alarm call. The male appeared 30 seconds later.

Female in the nest. Appears to be incubating....I'll check again the 27th.

04/01/2016 by jude
No osprey near the tree or in the area. The nest looks ready but no one is home.

This young pair has returned to try again after last year's unsuccessful attempt to have a clutch. They are back, the nest is repaired, and they are both staying close, despite the large amount of car traffic nearby.

06/16/2015 by jude
No sign of chick above the level of the nest yet but parents are both in the area and often stand on the side of the nest. Will keep watching.

05/17/2015 by jude
Still incubating....this year may be a success!

04/22/2015 by jude
The nest appears to be quite loose and insecure. The adults are frequently in the area and sitting on the branches but no one appears brave enough to incubate.

Adult sitting on nest; second adult on snag above nest; nest I see is on river side of Parkway and a bit closer to the Parkway pullout ("Real Estate" header on marker) than depicted on map.

03/24/2015 by jude
No activity at this nest yet. The remains of the nest are falling apart and include plastic bags and other unusual materials.

03/14/2015 by jude
No action yet....hopefully they'll return and try again!

05/02/2014 by jude
Both male and female are staying close to the tree and seem to be ready to lay eggs. However, no incubating at this time.

There were two osprey sitting on this barely begun nest today, copulating. The nest is small still and the tree is very short and close to the road.
