Nesting Diaries

Winter 2013 Nest pulled up by ice and carried into Bay. New nest constructed to duplicate the one lost and placed on land 548ft on a 015 deg bearing from lost nest position. New coordinates are N37-28.530 W75-57.214 The replacement nest was easily accepted as it was about 30 feet from favorite pine tree branch used for feeding

This nest was carried away with the ice in the winter. A new platform was erected at Lat 37.285297 and Long 75.572145. This platform is on land and I am assuming the pair from previous years have taken up residence there. This nest is close to a tall pine tree which they always used for feeding. After we placed the new platform they started building almost immediately, although the process was delayed by bad weather several times. On April 25th the incubation started. On May 7 we counted two eggs in the nest
