Nesting Diaries

I saw the male first on the 7th of March, he was busy adding more twigs and branches to his nest. The nest sits on a very tall platform on the restricted side of the NavSea base, very close to the Mattawoman Creek shoreline.

This nest is located on a government installation. The side the nest platform is on is restricted to personnel with credentials. However you can see the nest on the opposite side of the fence. It is located near the Mattawoman Creek, part of the vast watershed. This nesting pair have been around for many years and each year has successfully fledged offspring.
