Nesting Diaries
Found 1 adult on the nest. The nest had obviously been cleared since last year, nest material much thinner than earlier.
One osprey in nest incubating, one osprey on tower strut above the nest.
Hatching occurred!
Two adults seen feeding chicks - two chicks visible!
Plastic streamers are hinging out the side of the nest. The ospreys obviously used waste plastic material in building the nest.
Two ospreys observed, one incubating, and one perched on the tower railing.
Incubation underway!
One osprey observed perched on nest rim, with 2nd incubating eggs.
No ospreys at the nest today (11:02AM to 11:50AM)
Found 2 osprey on the nest, but readily left. Do not suspect any chicks in the nest.
one adult on tower above the nest. Did not observe any birds in the nest
one osprey is sitting on the nest incubating eggs! The eagles 1/4 mile west seem to be getting used to this nest now.
The ospreys have not bee chased off, but rather have been busy. The nest is almost complete, but I watched the two going back and forth collecting more sticks and brining them back to the nest.
A fair amount of new nest material has been deposited on the tower platform since last week, but it looks pretty disheveled, with no nest shape. No ospreys observed over a 45 minute period. The nearby eagles (1/4 mile away) may have chased them off.
Two ospreys observed on tower, bringing nesting material for the first time. At this time, there are only about six sticks on the nest.
2 Ospreys observed on the ATON tower. Last year's nest is totally gone.
This Coast Guard ATON tower has been swept clean of all nest material. This looks like human activity to remove the nest. There is no sign of any of the old nest material, but the damaged ATON sign board on the tower that I reported to the C.G. has been repaired, obviously by the USCG.
Found two adult osprey on the nest, could not establish if any chicks in the nest.
2 adults observed on tower above (no on) the nest. New grass observed in the nest bowl. No sign of eggs or chicks.
When the adult eagle on a nest 1/4 away flew by hunting a fish, the ospreys left the nest tower.
2 ospreys observed on tower, but not on the nest. No incubations taking place here.
No activity at this nest today - they done been gone! :-(
6/1 - Nest has been abandoned! An active eagle nest is only 1/4 mile away, and the eagles may have driven them off
Female is still incubatign the eggs, while the male sites on the Day Mark tower.
Female osprey sitting on eggs, and after an hours absence, the male came back and perched on the tower above her.

Incubation continuing, male on tower standing guard.
The nest is active. The female is incubating, with the male standing guard on the tower.
This nest is only 410 yards away from an active bald eagle nest. The eagles have already chased ospreys off a nest further away, so it will be interesting to see if they allow this pair of ospreys to nest. On 4/15/17, the 2 ospreys were observed nest building on the ATON.
Observed this nest since 2009. Nesting material was cleared in October 2015. Nest was rebuilt by June 2016.
