Nesting Diaries
Nest blew down a year ago and has not been rebuilt.
No change in this information. No new nest in the area.
The top half of the tree collapsed over the winter, taking down the nest with it. A lone osprey was sitting in a nearby tree but no nest building activity is in evidence in the area.
There is no 2015 activity at this nest to date.
Adult observed perched nearby, but no osprey observed in nest.
Still sitting on next. Male flying around nest.
Because of the angle of the nest, I can't tell if the female is in the nest and incubating or not. However, a male is nearby frequently. I have high hopes.
The nest appears to be completed. At one point today, both adults were sitting on or near the nest. However, the female was not low in the nest but rather on the rim. It does not appear as if eggs have been laid.
The pair of osprey seem to be renovating and rebuilding their already established nest. They continue to add branches....no incubating behavior yet.
Still no activity. An osprey was sitting in a nearby tree but no second osprey and no rebuilding or rearranging in, on, or about the nest.
No activity yet. The nest has survived the winter and will need little work this spring. However, last year it was abandoned mid-June, so we'll see if they return.
Still no adults sighted in the vicinity and no activity around the nest. We will continue to observe in hopes that the young chicks are just out of sight.
We sat and monitored for nearly 45 minutes today and saw no activity and heard nary a sound. Our fear is that the nest has been raided and that it is now abandoned. We will continue to watch and monitor closely.
Still can't see within nest and am unsure just when eggs hatched. However, mother's behavior has definitely changed and both adults are going back and forth between nest and James River.
Adult pair have returned and are rebuilding the nest. Its close proximity to the parkway has caused them to both be very shy of parked cars or of casual observation.
