Nesting Diaries
excluder placed on channel marker as per DNREC Watershed, pair has accepted the platform for 2024
pair settled in and along with so many other nesting pairs this season, abandoned nest following storms, went back to channel marker but did not build a nest or settle there, no chicks this season, hoping to have DNREC put a much bigger excluder on the channel marker, they are aware just not taking time to do it
pair has built up both nest sites, the channel marker may win this season which is unfortunate due to the seaplane entering and exiting the marsh a few feet away plus no platform to hold the nest in high winds.
pair arrived 3-16-22 and perched on new platform installed last fall in attempt to move the pair off nearby channel marker, they are actually enjoying both sites at this time, taking nest material to both and have built up a nest back at the channel marker where DNREC removed their structure 2021,,the pole and signs are still able to hold some nest material this will be an interesting study to see where they lay eggs. fingers crossed a second osprey pair doesn't get into the mix...
Osprey pair arrived, decided to build up this new nesting platform, but eventually flew back over to nearby channel marker and built a nest. They continued to use this nest platform as a dining and guard perch, no other osprey pairs challenged them for either nest site. They had 2 chicks at the channel marker nest, one went missing just before fledgling
