Nesting Diaries
Female observed in nest for first time, with male perched along side her. Female making continuous vocalizations.
Observed one chick at edge of nest being fed fish by parent. Both parents circling around nest afterward. Parents not as audible as before.
Observed one live chick in nest as parent fed the chick. There could be more chicks but the height of the nesting material makes it difficult to see inside the nest. Also observed an intruding osprey exhibit aggressive behavior by performing aerial dives over the nest. The mating pair appeared to successfully defend their nest.
Nesting pair appeared to have ceased incubation-type behaviors, indicating chick(s) hatched. However, I could not see the chick(s).
Observed mating pair exchange turns incubating eggs. Much care was spent repositioning the eggs to the incubator’s desired location following shift change.
Observed female exhibiting incubation posturing in nest (residing low in nest with flat back) for entirety of 30min observation period.
Observed mating pair at nest. Female assumed squatting position in nest, with male perched above. Some progress was made in nest construction in breadth and height.
Observed mating pair building up their nest with sticks.
Nesting pair arrived to nest two days ago. Observed pair circling around nest, fishing, and perching in nearby trees. No activity with building nest, as of yet.
