Nesting Diaries
Mary Alice T happened to see an adult in the nest and sent a photo.
Mary Ellen B reports: Two ospreys are seen flying around the nest. One video shows one osprey sitting on and then flying off the nest. I am attaching two still images I took from the videos.
NOTE: THIS PAIR HAS BEEN NAMED CAL AND TINA.
Mary Alice T reports: I was in SP today and the nest on Spartina ihas at least one chick and was feeding it - 2 photos attached...
Mary Ellen B reports: One osprey sitting on the nest both 5/10 and 5/11 in the morning.
Mary Ellen B reports: I saw one osprey perched near the nesting site this morning. Very exciting!
Several reports that both osprey returned. One photo included.
Mary Ellen B reports: I’ve checked nest 8028 twice in July ( most recently on the 9th), and I did not see any birds on or around the nest on either visit. The nest looks intact and not to have sustained any damage in the storm Wednesday night. I will keep dropping by to see if the ospreys return.
Mary Ellen B added a photo of the family from 6-18-21.
Mary Ellen B reports: Excitement at nest 8028! At 8:30 this morning, I counted 3 osprey heads in the nest! One was definitely an adult. I believe the 2nd was probably an adult also, but the 3rd was a hatchling!
NOTE: Because the nestling was large enough to be seen, we are guessing that the egg(s) hatched about May 31. (that is about 2+ weeks ago.)
Mary Ellen B reports: One adult on the edge of the nest.
Mary Ellen B reports: One osprey was sitting on a snag just out of the nest.
Mary Ellen B reports: 3/27 9:45 am One osprey was perched on the snag to the side of the nest.
Mary Ellen B reports: This is a newly found nest which was set up in the database on March 8, 2021. We do not know much about the nest yet, but by the time it was located, the pair was already back. We will record the pair as having returned on 3/9/21 although they probably returned in the past week.
