Nesting Diaries
March 10, 2024 -- both birds observed on the nesting site, rearranging sticks. In 2023, they arrived March 5 and in 2022, on March 7, so they are a few days later this year! This pair has been on this platform since around 2013? 2014? So they are an old, established couple. Glad to see them back this year.
Both osprey were observed at last year's nest. They spent time rearranging sticks with an occasional break for a fish. This pair is getting right down to business.
March 3, 2023 -- the earliest return I've recorded. Osprey arrived with a fish and perched on a pole across from the nest to snack. Will keep an eye out for the mate.
Two adult osprey were observed at this site on March 7, 2022. This is the earliest arrival noted for this location.
The osprey that returned to this nest on March 16 has a companion there this morning.
We have a returnee! I have been checking this nest every day for the past week or so. This is the 3rd year in a row the osprey returned to this nest on March 16!
This nest was originally built across Warren Avenue in front of the TD Bank. Due to the mess made on the sidewalk over the summer, the bank requested JCP&L to move the nest. A platform was placed across the street but closer to the railroad tracks in approximately 2015. The first year in the new site, something happened to cause the parents to abandon the nest. However, birds have occupied the nest every year and have raised at least one chick each time. This year, there appears to be a total of 4 fledglings in the nest as of June 28, 2020.
Nest is fully occupied and very active on a late June day!
