Nesting Diaries
4/4/23 - observed female on nest chirping at another bird flying by. Saw this behavior twice today. Her mate definitely returned and I've seen them both in the nest.
3/29/2023 10:30 AM - spotted one Osprey above and near the nest calling. I'll be looking for a pair and be more ready with my cell phone.
Biking and driving past the nest recently I've only seen one or 2 birds around. Adults are most likely gone.
The date of pledging is an estimate. I was away on vacation. Hadn't fledged before, but had after i got back.
4 birds in nest which means at least one adult is still here.
While watching adult landed and 2 chicks were seen. A second adult landed carrying a fish. The 2 chicks bent over spent the next 15 minutes eating. They then settled down in the nest. The chicks are almost as big as the adults. Have seen some wing flapping, but no serious practice yet.
Looks like there are still 3 chicks in the nest, still flapping. I don't think they've fledged yet.
Observed the nest from my kayak and saw 4 birds in the nest! Probably 3 chicks and Mama.
Saw a chick standing and flapping his wings when I drove by today!
Saw 2 chicks heads pop up out of the nest today.
Observed feeding activity and saw the top of one chick's head.
Drove by the nest today and the female was definitely out of the incubating position. I think we have a hatch!
Haven't seen any activity in the past week or so. (Was away from May 14 to 21. So no observations.) Previously, had seen adult on the nest, presumably sitting on eggs.
Drove by nests and it looked like female was in incubating posture!
Female was in nest but I don't think she was incubating yet.
Drove by nest and the birds were in the nest mating.
Both birds visible in nest
The Osprey are back! Picture was taken 3/26/2022 at 11:34 AM
1 adult and THREE chicks clearly visible in nest this AM!
No adults in nest but I clearly saw 2 chicks. One stretched out his wing. As I watched, an adult came back and settled on the nest.
One adult arrived 3/29/2021 but it took until 4/7/2021 before I could confirm two osprey occupying the nest at the same time (see image)

Saw both chicks taking flights today.
Floated by in my kayak and saw both chicks stretching their wings in the nest. Mom was sitting on the capped utility pole next to the nest, seemingly coaching them. From reading SMF's entry from the day before, I guess one of them had already flown. Yay!
Saw one of the chicks take a test flight. Started by spreading wings in the wind. Then flapped and rose about 2 feet above the nest. Only stayed for about a minute before settling back down.
Rode by in my kayak and saw 2 chicks and an adult in nest.
Just happened to be watching the nest at about 5 pm when one of the adults (I think the male) came back with a fish. The other adult was nestled down in the nest and rose up when supper arrived.
Saw one chick Pic # 0795(2) & 0795 - 4:04 pm
Clearly saw 2 chicks in nest!
Most days this week a chick's head was observed poking above the rim of the nest. Have only seen one chick at a time. So still don't know how many chicks have hatched.
First observation of chick in nest. Because of viewing angle, it's hard to see activity in the nest. Did see a chick's head pop up a few times.
On 5/23 I observed both birds in nest, not in incubating posture. Same thing on Sunday, 5/24. It seems that the chicks might have hatched.
I witnessed the changing of the guard this morning. One bird flew into nest, the one who had been incubating flew out and the other bird settled on the eggs.
At least 4 small birds are using the platform into which to build their own nests.
Mating activity observed again today.
Male and female repairing the nest.
Single osprey in nest @ 4:00 PM
I ran across the stone bridge towards the nest at about 7:30 this morning. Both birds were in the nest and watched me run by. Looked like a few new sticks had been added.
Three osprey in area. The one in the nest had a fish. The other two circling and flying fast. Images taken 3/27/2020 at 1?12 PM.
First time this season I've seen them Pic 4579
