Nesting Diaries
Jack C reports: Nest 7632 (and 7142 ) had ospreys visible standing on the side of nest and occasionally bending into the nests. Both nests also had vocalizations coming from within the nest so I suspect they were incubating
Jack C reports: two osprey on nest one low in nest and vocalizing a lot other moving around sticks and Spanish moss. The homeowners who are knowledgeable say they arrived about two weeks ago and have been fixing nest so there may be eggs.
Jack C reports that the nest is there but no activity seen.
Jack C reports that the nest is still there to start the 2023 season
Jack C reports: One Osprey with adult plumage on branch next to nest at 7632
Jack C reports: No activity. They have fledged and gone.
Jack C reports: one osprey in nest probably juvenile, none nearby.
Jack C reports: One juvenile on nest flapping wings one juvenile on nearby tree
NOTE: Based on the past 2 observation, we will assume that at least one chick fledged by 6/10
Jack C reports: 7632 two juveniles there they both had that brownish yellow patterns on their chests. One on the side of the nest vocalizing a lot and flapping its wings but not flying, the other one on an adjacent tree about 10 feet away.
Jack C reports: one adult on side of nest one in adjacent tree about 10 feet away
Jack C reports: 7632 I could see the tail feathers of one adult coming over the side of the nest as if it was leaning in and feeding or preening chick. The other adult headed off to the ocean to hunt. NOTE: Based on this observation, the timing of incubation, and previous observations, we are assuming that there is one nestling at least and that it may have hatched in early May. Our date of May 4 is just a guess. We can alter the date/number as needed.
Jack C reports: Incubation continues with another osprey standing on the side of the nest.
Jack C reports: 7632 one osprey probably the male sitting on a branch just above nest looking down. Vocalizations coming from nest. This is a large deep nest and I am pretty sure the female was recumbent on an egg.
NOTE: Residents near the nest report seeing a pair of osprey around the nest " for over a week". Based on this, we are listing the return of the pair about 3/10/22 but that is only our best guess.
Debby B reported seeing both osprey at the nest about 3/10
Jack C reports: Checked today and saw no activity but the people living in the house said they have recently seen one osprey around the nest doing a lot of vocalizations.
Jack C reports: There was a large osprey on the side of the nest leaning into it and either eating or feeding. I believe that was the female but could not see another bird on the nest. After about 10 minutes she sat down in the nest. A somewhat smaller osprey was in the adjacent tree that was ruffled and wet watching the activity in the nest.
Jack C reports: Single osprey sitting in middle of nest. One osprey probably the female flying overhead toward the ocean.
Jack C reports: 5/13-5/22
Checked the nest on 5/13, 5/20,21,22. On 5/13 single osprey on nest. On 5/20 and 21 single osprey sitting on same branch in adjacent tree about 15 feet from nest and slightly lower. On 5/22 on the end of the branch supporting the nest a few feet away Nothing seen in the nest. I believe that is the chick. There was only on last year. Jack
Jack C reports: Did not see or hear any osprey
jack C reports: 5/1 one osprey standing on side of nest leaning inward then went in low on nest.
Jack C reports: 4/21 one osprey low on nest making noise.
Jack C reports: Checked on both 4/10 and 4/17: Initially no birds visible either time. Today, however, I spotted an osprey in a pine tree about 200 yards away at the north end of the pond. After about 15 minutes it took off and flew to the nest and a larger one flew off the nest toward the ocean. He settled down on the nest. There was a lot of chittering but I couldn't tell who it was from. Will check again later in the week. NOTE: If our guess on incubation starting about March 8 is correct and based on the description of chittering and an adult flying to the nest and another flying away, we are assuming that the eggs have hatched.
We will record hatching as the 14th...mid point between the April 10 and 17 observations.
Jack C reports: 3/27. One osprey visible standing on side of nest looking in.
Note: While we cannot confirm incubation, the recent report makes it likely that incubation is underway. We simply guessed the 8th.
Jack C reports: Two osprey at nest, one in recumbent position in the nest vocalizing a lot. The other was standing on the side eventually took off and headed toward the ocean.
Jack C reports: One osprey probably the male sitting outside nest on branch and looking in
Jack C reports: Nest intact but no osprey present.
Jack C reports: In rethinking, they probably was only 1 nestling and it did successfully fledge.
Jack C reports: There was one juvenile on a branch of a pine about 15 feet from the 7632 nest tree. It went on a short flight over the pond and returned to the branch. It looked comfortable flying so probably fledged a while ago.
Jack C reports: maybe 7632 has two chicks, but this is unconfirmed.
Jack C reports: On 6/22 there was one young osprey standing on the side there may have been more but I could not see any
Jack C reports: On 6/13 I could hear what sounded like chicks and observed the mother.
Jack C reports: On 5/31 osprey tending chicks on 7632. I can't see how many yet but will check back soon. They may have been born before 5/20 because just as I was leaving an osprey flew off the nest at a low angle.
NOTE: posted 5/15 for hatching...but that is a guess based on the observations.
Jack C reports: 7632 had two osprey one in the incubation position NOTE: this may mean the incubation date was incorrect. We will keep waiting.
Jack C reports: On 7632 one osprey visible in incubation position. Other osprey not sighted.
Jack C reports: one osprey was circling and calling above nest 7632 the other bird was not visible.
Jack C reports: checked nest 7632 on 3/19 could only see one osprey standing beside the nest making deep pitched whistles almost like singing. The nest is very big and the residents of the house who apparently can see in from the upstairs said the ospreys had been in incubation posture since 3/15
Jack C reports: two osprey at but not in nest 7632 probably arrived 3/5 since I saw them headed that way together. One was at nest 3/6 the other probably out hunting.
Jack and Janice C report: no activity at the site
Jack Cm reports: no activity at the nest yet
Note: Jack C. spoke with a man who lives by the nest and was told that there were 3 chicks that fledged this year and 2 last year when were were not monitoring this nest.
Reported by Jack C. : This is another nest which also fledged a chick
behind 36 South Beach Lane on Sprunt Pond. It has been there for several years.
NOTE: Because this nest was not reported until July 20, 2019, we have no data other than confirmation that there was at least chick that fledged.
