Nesting Diaries

Chris K. reported - This nest hasn’t been active the past few years. Carol and I debated last year to change the status to inactive. I will let you know if I see any activity.

05/28/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K reports: #7567 on Ellis Court has had no activity. NOTE: This nest is probably inactive this year.

04/27/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K reports: Male was being very vocal.

04/05/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K reports: osprey continue to be around nest, but no incubation yet.

03/19/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K reports: I went up to check on the nest at 3:15 pm and saw there was an osprey sitting in Alan’s nest (7019). Halfway between 7567 and 7019 there was an osprey perched in a tall pine tree making all kinds of noise. I stayed to see what would happen. As I was observing another osprey flew over 7019 but didn’t stop. T he osprey that was perched on the tree took off and circled back and landed in 7567! I looked back over at 7019 and the osprey was still perched on that nest. About 10 minutes later, ANOTHER osprey came in and landed in 7567 with the osprey that was already there. So I witnessed 2 osprey in nest 7567 and 1 in 7019. Here are some photos of 7567 as the second osprey came in for a landing. I think we now have proof there are actually 2 pairs and both nests are active.

03/17/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K reports: I have been to nest 7567 several times in the last 2 weeks and have seen no activity. NOTE: There are two monitored nests in the same vicinity (7019 and 7567). While we do not understand exactly what is happening, there is an odd pattern. It seems a bit unusual that 7019 had chicks in 2018 and 2021, while 7567 had chicks in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Is it the same pair using a different nest each season or are there different pairs and it is just coincidence of the alternating success of each nest?

03/01/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K reports: The osprey was in the nest this morning at 8:15 am.

02/21/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K reports: I went up this afternoon at 3:50 pm and saw 2 Osprey flying around the nest. One landed on a branch in a tree across the street. People who live on the street told me they have seen them flying around but have not noticed them in the nest yet.

02/16/2023 by HHI Osprey Watch
Chris K observes: I found nest #7567 and saw no activity there. Activity normally starts later at this nest.

07/06/2022 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I went by Nest 7567 (had no activity last year) multiple times early in the season and saw absolutely nothing. I went by last week and to my surprise I saw 2 osprey – 1 in the nest and 1 flying around. I went back today and was thrilled to see 1 adult in a nearby tree eating a fish and 1 2022 young osprey eating a fish in the nest. After a while, the osprey flew out of the nest so the osprey has fledged but still hanging around. So happy a pair of ospreys finally used the nest again but was late to start or never around when I went by.

05/01/2022 by HHI Osprey Watch
This nest had no activity last season or early in the 2022 season.

03/29/2021 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: no activity at the nest.

03/06/2021 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I have gone several times after my first sighting and haven’t seen anything since. They were late starting last year so I’m still hopeful.

02/17/2021 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: Both Osprey are at the nest!

08/01/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Note: We cannot confirm what happened to the second nestling observed but it seems that only 1 fledged.

06/21/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I have gone several times in the past month and have only seen 1 osprey nestling. I went by today and saw only one and she was doing wing practice. Shouldn’t be too much longer before she fledges.

05/10/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: Finally!! I was able to see 2 osprey nestlings today. The female osprey was feeding fish for dinner. I have to be very far from the nest (several homes away from the nest) to capture the photo since the nestlings are small and way down in the nest.

05/03/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: Behavior indicates we have chicks… Female was sitting up in the nest and looking down in front of her. Male was on a nearby tree. NOTE: Based on this, we will indicate hatching around the 23rd...but that is just a guess!

04/17/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I went by today and the female was still sitting down in the nest. Hopefully soon I will have more to observe.

04/14/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I went by the nest today and observed one adult in the nest calling out but didn’t see the other adult. The adult appears to still be sitting down in the nest.

04/02/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I couldn’t see any osprey so the osprey was probably sitting down flat in the nest.

03/15/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: One osprey in the nest. I did see a second adult fly away on nest 7567. NOTE: We are assuming that incubation has started.

03/02/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: One female in the nest today. A neighbor told me on 2/19 that she saw both at the nest.

02/16/2020 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I have gone by several times with no ospreys in sight.

06/29/2019 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I went by and visited the nest today and saw one of the osprey chicks leave the nest while Dad was watching and the other osprey chick was gone. Both fledged. Great news. NOTE: Based on this observation, we are guessing the first one fledged between 6-3 and 6-29. As a guess, we recorded the first as fledging on 6-24.

06/02/2019 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I have been able to confirm 2 chicks so far. Adult Female is between the two chicks. One on the left of adult and the feathers of the second. The male came to the nest and brought a fish while I was there.

05/31/2019 by HHI Osprey Watch
NOTE: This new nest was found on May 31st so we do not have info on adult arrival etc.

05/31/2019 by HHI Osprey Watch
Robin S reports: I talked to a couple of neighbors along the way and found out we have a first year nest at 15 Ellis Ct. As you are facing the house it is on the right side yard in the front. I heard nestlings but not sure how many. I saw both adults with one bringing food to the nest.
