Nesting Diaries
Bob C reports: No activity yet.
Bob C reports: No activity.
Bob C reports: There have been no birds or activity of any kind at the nesting site. We are marking in active this year, but the monitor will report if this changes.
Bob C reports: No activity
Bob C reports: Nest is in tree, but no osprey seen.
Bob C reports: No activity at the nest. Nest still
intact.
Diane L reports: I have been by the nest #7229 several times this month.
Checked on it again this morning; and I have not observed any osprey activity there.
NOTE: While we do have visual confirmation of incubation and then feeding behavior, we have not been able to confirm that the nestling survived. There has been no activity reported for over a month. Based on this, we are concluding that while there probably was a nestling, it did not survive.
Diane L reports: I have checked twice this week and have not seen any activity.
In fact, I have not seen any osprey at the nest.
Note: Bob did not see anything on 5/28 either.
Bob C reports: several times in the past week I have observed what appears to be feeding behavior. Cannot confirm the number of chicks, though.
Bob C reports a change in Mom's behavior. He believes there is at least 1 chick.
Bob C reports:Both osprey were on or near the nest this morning. Appeared that Mom was on the nest with her head up looking around. Dad delivered a fish. NOTE: Based on this observation and the previous one, we assume that incubation is underway. Our best guess is about 4/14
Bob C reports: observed one osprey down in the nest.
Bob C reports: One adult was in the nest. As I was golfing, another adult flew directly toward the nest with a fish in its mouth. I cannot confirm she is incubating eggs, though.
Bob C reports: While playing golf Wed., I noticed an osprey bringing Spanish Moss to the nest. Then on Friday, it appeared that the nest had been refurbished with Spanish Moss. There were two osprey at the nest.
Bob C reports: While playing golf, I noticed one adult osprey near the nest calling for its mate.
Diane L. reports: I have been by nest #7229 twice since the beginning of March; Nothing.
No Activity that I can see.
Dianne L reports: No change in status. Nest appears the same and no osprey sighting.
Diane L reports: I checked on the osprey nest yesterday (2/3) and it looked to be in good shape. It looks much bigger than last year. No osprey activity noted yet.
Bob C reports seeing an osprey sitting in the nest. It probably was the fledgling who returned to the nest for a "visit".
Bob C reports he believes the chick fledged. When golfing, he has not seen them around the nest for a couple weeks. Our guess is that fledging occurred by July 4
Diane L reports: I must be viewing this nest when they are out hunting. Did not see one bird today. However, a man that lives on Cadogan Street says that he has seen the ospreys there with fish.
Bob C reported: Feeding behavior seen
Bob C reports: While golfing, I saw an adult at the nest and what appeared to be feeding motion.
NOTE: Based on this and the assumption of when incubation started, we are assuming that hatching took place. The date of May 10 is our based guess.
Diane L reports: Checked on my nest this morning and there is activity.
The male was just flying away after I got there.
Female on nest: got the tail feathers in this picture. A friendly gentleman who lives in that area reported there was a third osprey in that area until about a week ago.
Maybe a juvenile that returned to the nest area?
Bob C reports: No activity on 5/5 or 5/6.
Diane L reports: My last check a few weeks ago there was an osprey on the nest.
I checked this morning and that nest sure is tiny and no activity.
Diane L reports: Nest #7229
I walked over to Cadogan Court today but did not see the ospreys.
The man who lives in the closest house to the nest said that the ospreys are in the nest.
NOTE: Based on this report and the 3-29 observation, we assume incubation is underway. It is simply a guess on the date though.
Bob C reports: osprey in the nest
Bob C reports: Osprey at the nest, possibly a second one in the nest
Diane L reports: I am happy to report that despite such a small, jumbled nest, there is an osprey in the nest.I saw it fly into the nest today & it did not leave in the time that I was there; eggs perhaps?
Diane L reports: Nest is still the same size (small & rough looking.) No osprey activity.
While golfing, Bob C. reported seeing 1 osprey at the nest.
Diane L reports: No activity; Looks like part of nest gone.
Bob C observed that the osprey were flying around the nest. Probably 1 adult and 2 youngsters.
Diane L reports: I have swung by nest #7229 about 3 times in the past month & saw one maybe two chicks.
Yesterday, no activity: so I would say they have empty nest!
Diane L reports: I managed to dodge the storms & get over to Osprey Nest #7229 yesterday afternoon. HOT
I was there about one hour.
Noted just this one osprey in the nest & occasionally it would flap its wings like it was testing them out.
Definitely not as large as an adult.
I did not see the adults.
Observer Diane L reports: Saw adult osprey & one, maybe two young osprey in the nest.
I spoke with the folks that live in the closest house to the nest. They said there's two young osprey.
Exciting!
observer Bob C reports: 5/17:
Osprey around nest and heard chicks.
Diane L reports: I did not observe any babies, but the osprey was quite attentive in that nest.
It kept moving it's head up & down & looked like it was tossing some food around....maybe feeding chicks?? NOTE: Based on this description, we are assuming that the clutch hatched. Our guess is 4/20.
observer Diane L reports: I spent about 40 minutes at the nest site in the late morning.
Saw both adults: male osprey flying mom on the nest.
Met up with the nice man, Dwayne, who lives on the golf course who took me out to the green & saw a fabulous view of the nest.
BUT still could not see any babies.
Dwayne says he & his wife have seen the babies lifting their heads from the nest.
Unfortunately, not when I am around.
observer Diane L reports:
Swung by today noted mom osprey on the nest & appears to be chicks by the sound....did not observe.
Dad osprey flew in with a big fish, but did not share. He took it to a nearby pine tree & ate it himself.
Diane L reports: I heard an osprey in the area, did not observe any nest activity or osprey on the nest.
Diane L reports: I heard an osprey in the area, did not observe any nest activity or osprey on the nest.
observer Diane L reports: Nest #7229. Noted one osprey sitting on the nest the entire time I was observing. I could not tell if it was male or female. (Note: it looks like the male with a clearer chest, but not sure)
observer Diane L reports: osprey near nest; osprey seen by both the observer and a neighbor flying in with meeting material to repair the nest
Observer Bob C. reports: juveniles are gone but there is one adult in the area of the nest.
Observer Bob C. reports: One adult flowing over the lagoon near the nest. No juveniles in/around the nest. They may have fledged.
Observer Bob C. reports: One adult flowing over the lagoon near the nest. No juveniles in/around the nest. They may have fledged.
observer Bob C. reports:No osprey visible in the nest but one osprey seen flying away from nest. Not sure if it was an adult or one of the 2 juveniles.
No one knew about or reported this nest until a golfer told me about it on June 25th. On June 26 the first observation was made...and there are two large chicks in the nest who look like they will fledge very soon. Because of the late date we became aware of the nest, we have no idea when they arrived, started incubation, or hatched. The images posted are of the two juveniles.
