Nesting Diaries
not getting a good vantage point but seeing some activity around back tree line
pair is incubating today but no start date available
snag held through past few days of high wind but can not confirm incubation
activity around the woods but nest fell last year so the air needs to rebuild somewhere
one juvie eating fish on branch
nest down after storm today and this evening I was so happy to see 2 fledglings flying around the area landing on branches, no nest remains for them to go to rest or be fed so they will need to learn fast but yay they are alive.
one chick in nest with one adult, second adult on nearby snag
clearly see just one this evening, hoping it fledges soon but it looks too young, maybe about 7 weeks?
seeing chick feeding but nest is obscured, can see 2 larger chicks now
feeding observed both adults on nest today
tallest snag nest, feeding observed today, low nest appears vacant
there are currently 2 snag nests along this marsh double treeline, one in each area with no confirmation of incubation but both are active
have not seen the pair but there is a new nest next stand of trees to the west, this pair may have moved there so it would be a renest of sorts, can not yet see chicks
pair remains on trees near the nest, i would assume, like many others in the area, the heavy rains were not kind to this pairs eggs
finally can see one deep in nest today
do not see any osprey incubating, new nest on other tree stand, this pair may have moved
nest looks good and one osprey deep in nest, i did not get n exact incubation date for this pair but nest is definitely active this season.
pair perched in tree on east side of woods, can not see if nest still intact, need my boat to confirm
both flying around and building up the snag
at least one flying around the nest area, can not confirm activity as its on the far side of the tree line. boat will be in the water this coming week and hope to confirm
none seen since 8-18-18 and with heavy storms since last mid week continuing thru this coming week i doubt i will see them again this season
well I spoke too soon, decided to take my boat around the back tree area to get a better look at the new snag nest for this pair and there they were, both perched in snags close to the nest. guess they have been staying away from the front side of the woods were the nearest osprey family fledged too.
have not seen adult osprey around since the nearby channel #7 marker nest fledged 2 chicks, the family took over the tree area where this pair was hanging out.
nest is large, both adults come and go but not seen regularly
no activity seen recently at this new nest site
pair has been busy taking nest material to a new taller tree very close to their low snag nest that was somehow destroyed around the 3rd week of May. they are also causing trouble at the CM7 platform (123 IB) #6005,as I have seen them diving at the incubating female in that nest. their new nest looks very good and i sure hope they do not try to re-nest this season.
nest looks like it has fallen down the snag or was pulled apart. both osprey were flying around the area today possibly looking for a new nest location
I saw incubating behavior until the 12th of May. Since then there is little activity at the nest area. The snag is close to the ground in a very remote area, I would suspect raccoons or GHowls as the predators and reason for fail.
confirmed incubation behavior today by boat, pair is in the small snag near White Creek waterline, near nest on CM7
I am seeing activity around the trees to the west, 2 ospreys flying on the north side of the treeline but no nest visible.
no signs of a new snag nest but increasing osprey flight activity around the 2 sets of woods and the immature eagle is hanging around too
I checked this ever changing marsh forest area today and saw no osprey. i did see one of the eagles from the nearby Bethany Forest nest sitting deep in the tree apparently hoping an osprey would fly nearby with a fish. Then I checked the eagles nest and saw the other bald eagle fly in with nest material. i could not see any eaglet heads or confirm there are eaglets.
end of season: no birds seen after the snag was destroyed. this location is a tough spot, I have seen nothing good come of it past few years
entire snag down, probably due to high wind storm, no birds seen
suddenly the nest is empty. it is directly next to a tall grove of pines and we believe a similarly placed nest on opposite side of grove of pines was owl attack in 2015. there is also the Bethany Forest Eagle nest in site line of this nest. both adults still at nest
Nest survived this mornings storm, at sunset one adult on the nest
This tall snag is clearly visible from a beach along Indian River. It is about 600 feet off the beach so it is not disturbed by the rare beach comber but you can see and hear the osprey. I saw 3 little heads pop up during feeding on June 17. I am due for a 4 pack of chicks this season, could this be the nest?
one incubating, one in nearby snag
still incubating even with the activity at the nearby bald eagle nest
one deep in the nest today. I did not see mate but the nearby eagles at Bethany Forest nest were at their nest with one feeding at least one eaglet.
I suspect they have been here for about a week. the nest is quite built up. one was in the nest today with the other perched on the next door snag.
no ospreys seen at this iste thus far... but I will take my boat to check on the nest soon as its better viewing via the bayside.
New snag nest is still standing at the close of 2016.
I have seen the adult pair making a new snag nest on the opposite end of the tree line, visible from Indian River and near the entrance to the new marina in a very shallow gut for Bay Forest, a marina and development that is shockingly close to an established eagles nest. The osprey pair sit in a snag nearby but show no signs of nesting for this year. The new snag nest is quite large and so I hope it makes it through the winter storm season. Unfortunately this nest IS quite near the Bethany Forest Eagle nest that produced 2 eaglets this season. There are no doubt owls in this secluded area also.
No birds in htis area this season.
Snag nest destroyed in high wind storm first week of April 2016. No birds observed in the area.
