Nesting Diaries
Successful fledge of 2 babies!
After first nest failure, they are back on eggs
Many vultures around. She is still around alone crying from different trees. Today saw another Osprey near nest chasing vultures away, she was at nest. 2nd Osprey sat on perch of nest while she was in nest. 2nd Osprey left, haven’t seen it again.
She had been sitting on eggs, but we noticed she was alone and no longer sitting on nest. Have not seen male.
Platform survived Irma. Male was seen around off and on since late September, which is earlier than his normal return.
It appeared that a younger pair first tried to occupy the nest, but were chased off by pair that regularly nests here.
One last chick had been hanging out alone at the nest for the last couple of weeks. We nicknamed it 'Cry Baby', as it was very vocal. Another young osprey joined it for the last few days. I think it was from another nest by the way Cry Baby acted. They fished together and shared an area on the dock, but I did not see both on the nest. The last time I saw them was 06/12.
Only one chick is left, has been alone for the last couple of weeks. Fishes and hangs out around nest, calls out a lot. Hopefully will be migrating soon.
For a few weeks now it appeared there are only 2 chicks not three. We can clearly see them feeding 2 large chicks. They both did some wing flapping when it started to rain the other day.
We now have verified feeding of three babies ! All look pretty strong, and parents are very attentive.
Female arrived today, male has been around for a couple of weeks. Breeding activity today. Nest needs a lot of work.
