Nesting Diaries
Keeping an eye out for what looks to be another head. Most of the chicks in this area are staying hunkered down or under Mama's wings, due to the heat and humidity.
This pair was still incubating, but they were our last arrivals, I believe.
This nest had to be rebuilt. It was totally destroyed over the winter. Also, it is very close to a building that burned down recently. This pair was the last arrivals that we noticed this season.
Possibly another nest failure. We have not seen any one in the nest the last several visits. Yesterday, 7/6/2022, there was an adult on a nearby pole eating.
Osprey is sitting up at times, and sitting deeper into the nest at times. No sign of a chick head, as yet.
Chick has fledged since we last rode by on the 26th of July.
Definitely one chick here!
Definitely one chick here and large enough to see the spotted wing in my zoomed up photo. There was another bird in one pic, but I couldn't tell if it was a younger chick or just another bird of some sort paying a visit.
Sitting on the side with bent wings in protection pose (what I call that position when Mama bird is shielding her young under her wings).
Sitting up on the side of the nest again today.
Possible chick in the nest. One osprey is now on the side of the nest.
There is always one osprey in the nest whenever we go by this one. Usually, they are hunkered down.
Possible incubation being noticed, but not positive.
The male was attempting to mate today, but the female took off. The chase was on and went on out to far to see. Hopefully, there was connection!
Nest rebuilding is coming along.
We saw some major rebuilding going on here today.
The pair will have to rebuild on this platform, yet again. The wind storms must have torn this nest down over the winter.
There had been one chick, but we haven't seen anyone at this nest now for awhile. It's one of our most often checked nests, as it's only 5 minutes away. Sadly, we're thinking something got this check.
Both osprey are now at this nest and/or sitting on a nearby pole.
The platform was fixed and there has been an osprey hanging around. We've only seen one so far.
There is one osprey at this nest. However, the platform is hanging on sideways, probably due to the amount of wind we've had.
Last year, this nest was rebuilt and one chick fledged. This year, both birds came back and started repairing the nest, but the nest was gone one day when we rode by. We don't know if it was destroyed by weather or human, but it's been torn down before, so we are assuming it was torn down again. They hung around for awhile, but we only see one every so often, flying over now.
There is a pair in this nest! I am thinking it was the male from this nest who was bothering the Boat Ramp nest pair today, for some reason. I don't know if they were chasing each other over a female, since they both have one, or territory. This should be interesting this summer!
