Nesting Diaries

07/17/2016 by Hirondelle
There were two adults. One of them mainly stayed in the nest, and I saw the other bring a fish to the nest, which the first bird ate. Because of the angle, I could not see if there were eggs or chicks in the nest. There is a large, messy pile of sticks under the scaffold which holds the current nest. It looks like that might be a previous nest, which might have fallen down, and they've rebuilt up on the scaffold.

I saw a large raptor, which I believe now was an osprey from this nest, flying into the combe near our apartment (Waverley Greens, off of Lava Dr.) and leaving with a huge stick. That's how I found the nest, following his direction and figuring out he might be using that water tower as a nesting area.

At least two fledged from this site last year. I've seen one adult at the nest this year so far.
