Nesting Diaries
Got a good shot of this one today, no leg bands and wondering if this is a male based on the leg girth. Hard for me to tell. Pic uploaded.
Female has returned! I believe she just arrived this morning (3/8/22) as I have been checking every day for the last 5 days and have seen no one at this nest.
Male and female on the nest observed 3/31/21.
Male spotted on the nest this morning. First Osprey sighting of the 2021 season for me - and definitely one of the first in the area as Ive been searching for the last few weeks - especially last few days with the 60 degree weather.
Morning of Jun 27 observed one chick sitting up. Can't tell if there are more. Yay!
Saw this next occupied for the first time this morning - 3/16/19. Male and Female are holding on during the strong winds after frontal passage last night. They look healthy, and the platform looks to be in top shape. Looking forward to a great season! Pic uploaded.
Nest has been moved from utility pole to man-made nest platform approx 5 feet to the north of previous location. Two adult osprey observed on nest today.
I usually see two chicks - but see one in the nest today - I believe the other was nearby as the female was torn between going near to the far trees on the other side of the road and keeping an eye the nest.

Chick eating fish in nest. Still unsure if it is an adult and chick or two chicks. Adult on top of dead tree across the street. 5:10pm
Observed one juvenile in nest. Sitting on edge of nest calling.
Saw at least one chick in nest! Adult in nest, sheltering chick from sun.
Unable to see inside nest but believe adult female was spreading wings to protect nestling from sun. Unable to see any chicks.

Male osprey brought fish to female in nest. Female took fish across the street to favorite tree while male resumed nest sitting.

Second chick observed in nest. Female brought food to nest first them male brought what looked like a rat to nest. Dinner is served! 5:35pm
Saw chick and female in nest. Male circling above.
Saw a single chick in nest today! Mom and Dad both In nest with chick at dinner time. 5:15pm
Female low in nest. Still unable to see inside for eggs/chicks. However when female called out, I thought I heard faint calls in reply coming from nest. Chicks repeating mother?
Female low in nest. Unable to see any eggs or chicks since pole is too high. Male was off fishing and brought fish to female. 6:30pm
Female incubating on nest. Male in tree across street in Riverside Rd.
Both flying in circles over nest and vocalizing. 3:50PM
Both male and female on nest. Male flew off to favorite tree across the street. Female rearranged twigs in nest. Made egg nudging motions in bottom of nest (eggs?). Female began to call out as a Red-Tail Hawk flew past overhead. After 2 mins, Female flew off nest leaving it unoccupied. Very warm day - 68-72 degrees. 3:45PM

Both male and female will fly off nest to bare tree across the street on Ft. Monmouth property. Male also will sit in top of tree across the street (southerly) from nest on Marina property.
Osprey sitting on nest (female?). Flew off toward west. Landed in bare tree on Ft Monmouth by water. 03:15 PM.
