Both adults on nest March 16, 2018
July 6 2017 banded chick with purple band 08/D
It appears there may be an egg or eggs in the nest.
First observed solitary females off and on for several days before verifying that one was nesting. One on box this date was attacked by another female and a fight ensued. I left before any bird returned to the nest.
Nest failed 4/1516. Reason unknown.
Yesterday, the beginnings of a nest appeared. Today more work had been done and the two birds appeared. there is a green cord or heavy monofilament fishing line used for nesting material.
Nest failed. Possible destruction of eggs/chicks by crows or great horned owl as per Reese Lukei.
Osprey still incubating. Egg(s) should begin hatching this week.
One bird was on the platform yesterday, apparently sitting on an egg(s). It did not move in 20 minutes. Same thing observed today.
An eagle attacked the nest, knocking one osprey off the platform. The two ospreys drove the eagle off.
There were two birds on the platform four days ago. a lone female attempted to drive them away. No ospreys were on the platform, nor any sign s os nest construction until today.
Two birds were perched on the platform this afternoon. Upon approach, they took off. Later, the male was perched on a channel marker with a fish. The female circled for awhile then left.
The male and female were mating. This male is most unusual in that he has a faint brown speckling on his chest. Normally only the female has this "necklace". See photos.
Construction of the nest started 3/17/2014. The female has arrived and was seen this afternoon.
There was a male on the platform this morning and again this afternoon.
Eggs apparently hatched after May 12. I last observed the nest that date and no chicks evident. On June 2, two chicks were seen in the nest.
Birds mated 3/1913, ~9:45 a.m.
The ospreys spent the day working on their nest.
Today it was apparent a pair of ospreys is nesting here. Both birds were around this afternoon and considerable construction of a nest had been since yesterday.
3/11/2013-A lone male was on the platform in the morning. He took off carrying a fish, hovering in mid air while calling. He returned five minutes later and alit on a nearby channel marker. Shortly, a female came on the scene and the male flew to the platform and was joined by the female. Within a few minutes, a third bird came on the scene and the two on the platform crouch down with wings spread, apparently trying to keep the other osprey off, That osprey continued on its way out of the area. The pair then took off. No ospreys were around the site later this afternoon.
02/19/2013-A lone male was on the nesting platform, taking off, circling around calling and landing back on the platform before instantly taking off again.
This is the third failure at this site in three years. In 2011, thenest was abandoned after the male disappeared. There were no hatchlings visible. In2010, the nest failled with the death of the femaile. Two fledglings were found dead in the nest from exposure.
3/14/2012-Construction of nest has begun.
