Nesting Diaries

Male delivered a fish to the nest and the female's behaviour seemed to suggest she was feeding chicks though none were seen.

Found the male perched at his usual site next to the highway a couple of miles from the nest. At the nest, the female was home. Spoke with a lady working at the reception desk of the resort and she said the pair was back at least 3 weeks. As posted on their website, she mentioned that they initially erected the platform hoping to attract a pair of bald eagles ... too funny! :)

2013: Due to the distance from Halifax (3-hr. drive), the first opportunity to observe the nest was in May and at the time there was a solitary male found perched a few miles away from the nest. Thinking perhaps the female failed to return from migration, I was excited to discover 3 chicks on the wing in August! It's possible the male secured a new mate or perhaps the original female was "late to the dance".
