Nesting Diaries

Appeared to be 2 little heads on 6/25 but only one spotted today from two angles.

06/25/2022 by Sandy
At least one chick seen in the nest today. Photos to follow shortly. Maybe there will be two little heads in the photo! Hard to see when the boat is rocking. Hopefully the camera spotted something that I missed.

Two heads! In one photo, you can see one head, but in the next, you see that head duck down a bit and another head pop up.

After the wind storms . . . this pair is back on the nest. Photo taken from across the marsh on Sunrise Blvd. Water was still too rough to go out on the bay.

Nest on the edge of the bay - survived high wind storms this weekend. Couldn't see any birds in the nest from this distance. A visit by boat wasn't possible today.

05/01/2022 by Sandy
One adult on the perch today, no birds in the nest.

04/22/2022 by Sandy
One adult on nest this afternoon. We boated down to Forked River and then back up to this nest, still only one adult. This nest platform was blown away over the winter and recently replaced by Ben.

Looks like one chick and they've planted a garden?!??

07/20/2016 by Ditzzeechick
Per Ben, two eggs were collected from this stand today.

06/04/2016 by Ditzzeechick
Nesting pair, doesn't appear there is a chick as of today.

04/01/2016 by Ditzzeechick
These two arrived today!

07/23/2015 by Ditzzeechick
All three were easily seen today as we floated by this morning. Another good size chick. I can see this stand from our turret, haven't seen him helicoptering off of the nest yet, but by his size, I'd think it would be soon!

These two were here in 2014. They build a nice nest...NO TRASH...at least from a rocking boat. We'll have to check back in the upcoming weeks to see if they have young ones. Forked River now has 3 stands fairly close to each other, but all three are inhabited this year!

06/23/2014 by Ditzzeechick
Floated by this one today. At one point it was occupied but this spring it's remained empty.

04/19/2014 by Ditzzeechick
It appears that the pair in this stand #3355 are now building a nest in stand #4808.

04/11/2014 by Ditzzeechick
This nest and nest #4808 are close together. Trying to determine if we have two sets of birds in each nest or one pair using both nests. More to come....see #4808 for further details.
