Nesting Diaries

03/09/2023 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: No sign of the ospreys at this nesting site.

03/02/2023 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: As of today, there are no sticks and you would never know there had ever been a nest. I keep seeing a third Osprey, so I hope things work out for her and I am watching for a new nest in the area.

02/22/2023 by CarolC
Wendy reports: Photo added of Larissa's nest. Not much there.

02/14/2023 by CarolC
Wendy D reports:I saw three Ospreys flying in the area of my nests. This was the first time that I had seen them in February

02/01/2023 by CarolC
Wendy D reports the nest is still there for the start of the 2023 season.

07/31/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: On the 17th I just saw one Osprey in the nest. Throughout that week, I would see the nest empty and then the next time I would see a young eating or calling on the nest. This past week of the 24th I have not seen any ospreys. I think unfortunately, but happily for the fledglings, the season for me, and Larissa is over this year.

07/07/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: I have seen the two chicks several times in the past two weeks and as recently as yesterday. One was on the light pole next to the nest. I hope I am not mixing up an adult for a chick. The one chick in the nest looks like a young with spots. The other one is less spotted.

06/14/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports Larissa definitely has two good size chicks! They were standing tall in the nest with Mom on the10th. I have gone several times but I have no idea the dates with all going on right now.

05/25/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: I have great news. Larissa's chicks hatched May 3rd!!!! I saw her on the side of the nest on the 13th, but there was no sight of her on 20. I went back on the 23rd to see if she was there and make sure all was ok and again no Larissa, BUT I am almost positive I saw TWO heads. On the 23rd, nothing and thankfully today on May 24th I saw Larissa in the nest and movement of one nestling.

04/29/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Monday 4/25 Larissa in nest 2583 was still sitting

04/18/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Larisa is still sitting and I will keep going by frequently to check on her!

03/29/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: noticed incubation posture Between the 14th and definitely on the 18th. I go at least 2 times per week to check on them. Both survived the March winds and rain and storms.

03/03/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Larissa and mate were sitting up together both yesterday March 1 and today March 2. I was driving away and perhaps because they were no longer being stared at, as I turned the corner and drove out of the school area on the little road to Gum Tree, he was mounting her.

02/25/2022 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Saw Larissa on nest 2583! No improvement to her nest yet. On February 23rd there was an osprey on the light pole next to 2583 and I assume it was Larrisa.

07/17/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Further update! Larissa's chick was back on the nest having lunch yesterday, July 16th. Mom or perhaps Dad was circling above.

07/11/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Friday July 9th, Larissa's chick was sitting up in the nest by itself. Sunday I drove by and there was not an osprey on site. I do believe our young chick has fledged. NOTE: We think there was really only 1 chick and it successfully fledged.

07/09/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Larissa ' s chick is fine after the storm. Mom must have been out fishing, because baby was alone on nest.

06/26/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: I was there again on Saturday. Our little chick was in the nest by "it"self and I did not see the parents anywhere nearby. The head is looking quite mature and the wings are darkening.

06/23/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: June 23rd and Larissa and chick were sitting on the right hand side of the nest as they ALWAYS are. I have never seen them in the middle or on the left side. The chick has developed adult feathering on the head. The back is quite dark with white spots. They grow up so quickly!

06/13/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Larissa and Dad were each on a light pole on either side of the nest. In the nest was the chick looking out.. The chick is still inside the nest and can only be seen from above the chest.

05/30/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: It is official! On May 20th I was able to see two skinny heads peeking out of Larissa's nest 2583! I have seen Larissa on the nest each and every time I am there. I have gone at least once every three days.

05/12/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: It appears that Larissa is still incubating.

04/07/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Larissa is even harder to see. I almost always see her tail tip sticking out of the nest. NOTE: Based on this observation, we assume she is on eggs. We cannot confirm the date, but have estimated it to be about 3/28.

03/21/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: 2583 Larissa must be in love. I always see the two of them together. It is such a shallow nest, but I do not think she is sitting on eggs yet. (report for 3/15-3/19)

03/14/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Both Mary Ellen B and I have seen Larissa and her mate in the nest as seen in the photo posted.

03/01/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: I saw Larissa fly into the nest. Welcome home! Next in flew 2 more osprey, They appeared to be chasing Larissa but it wasn't really aggressive.

02/02/2021 by CarolC
Wendy D. reports: This nest is a mess and no sign of returning osprey yet.

07/03/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: When I returned on July 1 and 3 I did not see any of the birds in the nest.

06/29/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: There was a young back in this nest and Mom (or Dad?) flew in with lunch on Monday the 29th.

06/24/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Larissa and her two young were all having lunch in the nest. The chicks are looking very much like adults.

06/18/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: 2583 Larissa was in the nest with two still scruffy looking chicks. They were standing tall in the nest right next to each other.

05/28/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Larissa 2583 had two little ones that still had brown heads. NOTE: We are unsure of the date they hatched and are just guessing May 5th.

05/10/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Lissa on 2583. Not a lot of movement so maybe still sitting

04/14/2020 by CarolC
Wendy and Carol report: After the storm the nest was still ok.

03/29/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Mom is sitting on the nest the last two times I went NOTE: We assume that incubation started last week.

02/24/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: So far no new activity on 2583. It still looks like a "last year's" nest.

02/06/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports no activity yet

01/26/2020 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: no activity seen yet

07/07/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Sadly my last report for this year, but the success makes me happy. On 2583, June 28 there was an osprey on the light pole next to nest light pole. No one in nest. On June 30, there were no Osprey in vicinity. I went again this week and all are gone. Two more new Osprey in the world! (and another in nest 2550) A good year.

06/24/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Constance was standing next to her two chicks that were standing on the edge of the nest.

06/22/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Constance had a nice surprise for me today. She has TWO young. Clearly 2 chicks and Mom were in the nest. The chicks were still actually IN the nest.

06/13/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Constance appeared to have one white head just popping above the nest line from time to time. The Mom (or an adult) sat on the Lacrosse light next to the nest light pole.

06/06/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: This nest is also doing well. Mom is sharing the chick. Dad is out fishing....I hope!

05/30/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: Both Mom and one chick were sitting up in the nest.

05/20/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: It looks like Mom's behavior has changed. She now stands up indicating the eggs probably hatched. We will guess that hatching occurred about May 7th, but that is only a guess. The nest location makes it hard to tell how many chicks are there.

05/05/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D observes: Moms on 2550 and 2583 were in the nest and a bit fidgety but I do not believe there were any chicks yet. No other Osprey in area. This is my report for Sunday, May 5

04/28/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: I went again yesterday and have been going weekly. Both nests have adult white heads which appear when the adult moves. The nests are so high up it is hard to see anything. They must be deeper this year because I cannot see the birds on them until they move. I go at least every week, often more. My last view was this morning at 9:30 am. I saw Moms on both nests. No other osprey in area.

04/11/2019 by CarolC
Wendy reports: Mom was in the nest and appeared restless. Incubation underway.

03/27/2019 by CarolC
Wendy D reports: The good news is that I believe Constance is on eggs! I kept seeing the one osprey sitting on the side of nest and this last time on the light pole next to the nesting light pole. I still could not see anyone on the nest so I parked myself and watched for half an hour. Sure enough I got a glimpse of the white head on the nest ! It must be must deeper than it looks. (NOTE: We will use this to indicate that incubation is taking place. The date is our best guess.)

03/04/2019 by CarolC
Observer Wendy D reports: Great news!!! Sometime between Feb 28th and March 3rd Constance came back to 2583! She was busy chasing away crows when I saw her and then left the nest, so I assume no eggs yet.

02/27/2019 by CarolC
observer Wendy D. reports: No one is on 2583 yet.

07/23/2018 by CarolC
Our best guess is that both fledged and the last time one was observed was about July 2.

07/23/2018 by CarolC
Wendy reports: It looks like Mom Constance and young have moved on.

07/14/2018 by CarolC
all 2018 observations and photos by Wendy D.

07/02/2018 by CarolC
observer Wendy D. reports: Today Mom or Dad was in a tree across from the nest with one juvenile crying for food behind him. No sign of other chick or parent. I know the one was a chick because of the dots on it.

06/21/2018 by CarolC
Observer reports: Mom Constance was on nest 2583 with two chicks.

06/11/2018 by CarolC
observer reports: The nest had Constance, Dad and two chicks sitting up and on the side of the nests

05/30/2018 by CarolC
Nest 2583 had two good size chicks active with Mom sitting on the nest edge. Observer believes that "Constance"may have had these tow last week and she was unable to see them. They seemed very developed, but still a bit fuzzy. Note: Based on this, we estimate that they may have hatched around May 15th...but that is a guess.

05/03/2018 by CarolC
Observer Reports: I saw Lissa 2583 on her nest today! No chicks yet that I could see and they were just sitting so we are still in waiting.

04/12/2018 by CarolC
observer reports: I saw Constance on her nest. I could just see the head from neck up at most. There was an Osprey flying high over the nest and calling that I believe may have been her mate.

04/06/2018 by CarolC
observer reports: On this nest (2583) today there was definitely an osprey sitting in the nest as if on eggs. I am going to name her Constance as she has consistently been at the nest.
