If there is someone in this area who can get a good look at this nest, I think our opinion that it is abandoned may be premature. I drove by yesterday (3/12) and I swear I saw an adult bird sitting on the nest. But I don't have proper binoculars. It's possible the nest has made a comeback.

This nest has disappeared; there is almost nothing left of it atop the dead tree and no birds have been seen trying to nest there.

This year, we were unable to determine how many chicks and whether the nest was successful, or even whether anyone else is reporting it. We don't think it failed but we can't be sure,. We hope to do better next year.
