The nest was very small to start. There was a lot of activity during the spring and early summer, and if there was a chick, it appeared to be only one (1). Since mid-August there has been no activity at the nest, and more work has begun on the microwave tower this past week. The small nest is still on top of the tower at this time. Work to continue for another month, so we'll see what happens in the spring.

There was a small nest on top of the microwave tower this year. It appeared that at least one chick fledged. The past two weeks more workers were working on the tower. Hard to tell if they took the nest down again. Will see in the spring of '16.

Around 15/16 April, two ospreys have been circling around the neighborhood, and landing on the microwave tower. On 20 April I observed a small nest with a few twigs beginning to form.

Two (2) ospreys showed up and started circling the microwave tower on 26 March. Over the next couple of days they circled our neighborhood, calling out. They were joined by another osprey two days ago. There is no nest on top of the microwave tower, and none is under construction as of today. I have not seen any of the ospreys in a day or so. I suspect that the microwave tower workers are not going to let a nest get built in the future.

This past week, October 12-13, 2014, more workers were on top of the microwave tower working. What was left of the small nest was removed, again.

05/02/2014 by oldrumrunner
For the past 2 weeks it appears that the ospreys are rebuilding the nest. There are some sticks visible, as well as some trailing plastic streamers. They continue to circle and call out over our neighborhood.

During the week of March 17, 2014, at least one (and maybe two) small, young ospreys arrived at the tower. They perch on the equipment at the top. The nest has NOT been rebuilt yet. They circle around our neighborhood calling out. It seems like they are expecting someone to rebuild the next for them.

The nest has been removed. A couple of weeks ago a company, with federal permits, removed the nest. Over the weekend, another company climbed the tower, and with a large mobile crane, installed some new equipment on the top. Hopefully in the spring our nesting pair will return and rebuild the nest. I had heard from a neighbor that the company removing the nest found a dog leash and collar up there.

All is quite at the nest since just after Labor Day. All birds have departed the nest. It looks like another successful breeding season. Until next spring.

08/31/2013 by oldrumrunner
For the past 2-3 weeks there has been plenty of their vocalizations in our neighborhood, and plenty of flying around the nest. There is at least one fledging, and probably two. Birds are still flying/gliding around the nest.

March 4, 2013 - noticed one bird on the edge of the nest.

March 15, 2013 - noticed two (2) birds on the edge of the nest.

The nest is on top of a microwave tower, and the only way to know if a nest is successful, is watching for fledglings flying around. There were at lesat 1 fledgling and possibly 2 this year. Verizon started working on the tower about 3 weeks ago. The nest is still intact on top of the tower, and appears to have survived Hurricane Sandy.

This nest has been occupied since at least 2009. Chicks have been hatched each year since. There is a small retention pond in our development, and the past couple of weeks, 'our' ospreys have been dive-bombing our pond, mostly successfully.
