3/27/18 - I noticed the nesting material was removed. I went over to the tower area and found contractors working there.
They said they have had a permit for 9 months and had the
clear to go to replace antennae's on the tower.
Nolan, whom I spoke with, said yesterday, the nest was there
and when he started working on replacing antennae's, it fell
down. He said he plans to put it back up the best that he can.
He said he would put some 2x4's up to support, we'll see if that
happens. Anyway, he did take photos before he started work,
as you will see in this email.
He was also told this was not nesting season and that it began
in the summer. I told him that it begins now with the building of
the nest, and ya can't have eggs until ya have a nest to put them in.
I will continue to stay in touch with him and educate him on the life
of an osprey. Maybe he will see them in a different light.
I will keep an eye on the nest site, Nolan says the work should be completed
by the end of this week. Hopefully so.

Palmetto Dunes Water Tank - there is a web cam set up that can be monitored from a phone or tablet, but NOT from a computer (technical problems 2-2019)
This nest is located at the top of a live tree behind 6 Cadogan Court on the fairway of hole #7 at the Country Club of Hilton Head. Very easy to view from the street in front of 6 Cadogan Ct.
Osprey nest is on CSA maintenance pole off Lawton Canal Road, right after turn into back entrance to Sea Pines Forest Preserve.
The best way to see the nest (on the skinny pole, not the water tower) is to go in the back gate, entering Forest Preserve on Lawton and park at first right hand turn under the tree before you get to the little gazebo with maps. Walk on the path to the gate and peer through. Walk a bit further and peer between trees. Very hard to see this nest as it is high up.
Sea Pines Rookery on Lake Mary (where there are no birds). You kind of walk back and then there is a blind with step and a nice look out over the water. If you look left as you face the lake, the fishing pier is just across the water on your left. The Osprey nest is on the left far away about mid-tree line.
In a tall pine tree on Queens Folly Road driving into Palmetto Dunes. Approx 100 yards east of the main bridge just to the right of the road and bike path. It is behind the 15th green of the George Fazio Course. 20yards or so past the tree on the road is a small sign identifying the George Fazio Course.
The nest is atop a pine tree close to the tower that was damaged from Hurricane Mathew. This nest is behind the Mellow Mushroom, the outside seating area, left of the Sea Pines Greenwood gate, front gate, to the right of Harris Teeter you get a perfect view from the Harris Teeter Mellow Mushroom side parking lot.
Main St. near HHP main entrance. Park in parking lot of first office buildings on RIGHT as you enter Main Street from the HHP circle heading toward the Coastal States Bank. Park in the lot and look across the street at the tower.
At the top of a very tall apparently dead tree located on the left side of the short cart path between golf holes Hills 4 and Hills 5 (between Fort Howell Drive and Fish Haul Road) on the right just past Caladium
Top of sweet gum tree, next to a pond in old golf course area now converted to a park. Appears to be a new nest this year. Made of sticks and bits of Spanish moss. Evidence of an older nest below this one; yellow-ripped warbler might be nesting within this older debris.
Osprey nest is on top of a communications tower at the Hilton Head Island office of Palmetto Electric Cooperative. The Co-op created a platform for the ospreys to nest.
nest on snag destroyed winter 13 and rebuilt spring of 14 in a pine tree 100 yds north of old snag. tree next to cart path and directly behind a green utility box
