The nest is located on Oyster Reef Golf Course in Hilton Head Plantation on hole #17. It is in a dead tree on the right hand side 3/4 way down the fairway across the lagoon. It’s close to the lagoon. Once you see it, you realize it’s fairly open to see with or without binoculars.

We applied for a permit to build this platform in 2018, hoping to attract a mating couple by spring 2019. This nest in on the south side of the Piankatank River where Ferry Creek flows into the river. We "seeded" the platform with sticks last summer to make it more attractive. My critter cam shows a pair arriving around March 10. They are actively adding to the nest, mating, defending their territory and it almost seems like the female is incubating, though it seems early for this.

Latitude and longitude are approximate. The nest is located at the north end of "lower" Patterson St. NW, on the east side of the street. The nest platform can be easily reached on foot by walking around an automotive barrier. There is a pedestrian pass-through to "upper" Patterson, which provides a view of the nest. The actual nest can't be seen from "lower" Patterson.

3/27/18 - I noticed the nesting material was removed. I went over to the tower area and found contractors working there. They said they have had a permit for 9 months and had the clear to go to replace antennae's on the tower. Nolan, whom I spoke with, said yesterday, the nest was there and when he started working on replacing antennae's, it fell down. He said he plans to put it back up the best that he can. He said he would put some 2x4's up to support, we'll see if that happens. Anyway, he did take photos before he started work, as you will see in this email. He was also told this was not nesting season and that it began in the summer. I told him that it begins now with the building of the nest, and ya can't have eggs until ya have a nest to put them in. I will continue to stay in touch with him and educate him on the life of an osprey. Maybe he will see them in a different light. I will keep an eye on the nest site, Nolan says the work should be completed by the end of this week. Hopefully so. May activity reported, but I don't see where I entered that. at this point, I believe, it was May 13 2013 that I saw 2 birds. 2 birds June 15 2013 2 birds July 17 2013 4 Birds July 17 2014
