Located in Whiting Creek. Platform. Female seems to have started sitting on nest on April 10, 2012. We moved here 4 years ago and did not have a nesting pair until 2010. That year we had 2 babies. For some reason in 2011, the female sat on the nest, but eventually just left. Not sure what happened.

wrote this in my journal on 4/30: "goose and chicks leave nest on 4/27 and on 4/30 a pair of osprey is using the nest!!! Might have to add this tidbit of info to osprey watch." on 5/11/12, i'm finally adding this nest, because the female appears to be incubating!

This nest is built upon a small sheet of plywood placed atop an old-growth interior douglas fir which had it's top broken off. The tree hosted an osprey nest for several years before the fracture took place. No nest attempt was made for a few years but in the past three years they have returned to make a nest. The platform is too small and smooth however which makes nest success precarious. It is directly beside the road so viewing it is easy from below but this can disturb the osprey.

a canada goose was using this nest until around 5/6/12. flathead county osprey seem willing to wait out the goose, then swoop in immediately when the mom/goslings leave and start their own nest building activities. this has happened at two other osprey nest platforms just this year. i think the pair now using this nest are the ones that were hanging around Nest #1013 the past couple weeks: Nest #1013 has had no activity observed in about 5 days.

Nest is built on a steel platform attached to a 10 metre high wooden pole which in 1998 replaced a fallen nesting tree. The first successful nesting was in 2005(one chick), followed by one in 2006 and then 2 each season since.
