1995 Ospreys attempted to build a nest on the A frame of our boat. We placed a platform on a piling and the birds accepted it. When we put a shed on the dock the birds abandoned the nest and attempted to build their nest on a different piling. We moved the platform to a different piling and the birds accepted it. For several years the birds successfully fledged several chicks. In the last four years they have not raised any chicks to maturity. We believe that mortality has also taken a toll of the adults and that neither of the original pair now claim the nest. There has been no break in the yearly attempt to use the nest. Birds return late February or early March. We are hoping that this year the nest will be chosen for chick banding or a bird cam. Electric is available.

Located directly over our dock and boat lift, made on 4x4 post and 3x3 platform This nest started on our motor for our boat lift, stayed there all summer of 2005. Built pole and platform early 2006 to get them to nest off motor, worked, nest has been there ever since. They come back every year so far. Had chicks get killed by owl in 2009, been fine since.

Along the west bank of the Wilamette River is an 8 ton, 40 foot high osprey nest platform pole specifically fabricated for the osprey by Zidell Marine Company. The osprey has chosen to return to this new neighborhood called South Waterfront for the past 5 years and has nested in several structures until this particular structure was built for it. It is very visible to anyone coming to the neighborhood - just a two block walk from the Portland Aerial Tram and the Portland Streetcar stop at the OHSU commons. It is next to the high rise condos of South Waterfront and the Oregon Health and Science University Center for Health and Healing. The nest has been relocated five different times due to human interference at the site (see the nesting diary on this website). The ospreys have returned to this site despite the disturbances and have demonstrated that they want to be at this site A permanent site has now been established. may be on KGW news station next year.

On nest platform on private property. Location is near a river. The platform is fixed atop a donated power pole and is about 50 feet above ground. A second power pole is installed about 20 feet away to serve as a perch pole. The top of the second pole is higher than the platform. Much of the area is actively farmed.

This is the first year for this nest. The female nested for years to the east of the nest on Black Dog Lake Tower. That nest was taken over by nesting eagles.

This nest is so close to the Green Lake (Lake) nest and very hard to monitor once the leaves are on the trees. I have no data at all on chicks that fledged.

Single bird at nest platform 03/31/2012. Nested at this location many times in the past On 04/07/2012 there were 2 Ospreys at the nesting platform. There were clearly more sticks on the platform than noted on March 31 One bird sitting on nest platform on 04/12/2012 suggesting possible incubation (second Osprey not observed One bird sitting tightly on nest 5/10/2012 but no chicks observed..presumably still incubating but also possible there are unseen nestlings (Second adult was also present at nest platform) Today, one adult was sitting on nesting platform & other adult briefly visited the nest. No nestling was observed but the bird sitting on nest seemed to be reaching down to a presumed (unseen) offspring. Last week on May 20 another local birder (Amar Ayyash) reported observing 1 chick in the nest Another local birder (Matthew Cvetas) today (June 3) reported other adult birds feeding one nestling at Bergman Slough On June 22 another local birder (Cary Hillegonds) observed 3 nestlings on the platform ! I was not able to observe this nest after June 22. I have relocated to Tucson, AZ so I will not be able to monitor Bergman Slough in the future

This is on a railway bridge across the Mississippi River. Yes, there is a river with that name in the Ottawa Valley near the capital city of Canada. And yes, it too just keeps on rollin' along. The train still delivers tank cars of caprolactam to a factory in Arnprior that produces nylon. The tank cars originate in Texas, so maybe the cars cross that 'other river' too ... just a thought. And who knows... maybe the Ospreys spend their winters on the gulf coast of Texas ... I wish I did.
