Nesting Diaries
The mother is hunkered day and appears to be incubating eggs.
It's just amazing....the nest we thought was abandoned ends up having 4 chicks! The mom flew off as we came close and the dad, as you can see from the fourth photo, stayed near and watched us closely. The four seem big and healthy and very quickly running out of room. These four will probably fly soon...there's just not enough space for them to grow any larger.
They have babies...yea! The number is unknown but we'll keep watching!
The nest has a real slant toward the river -- our view is made difficult by the high nest wall on our access side. We think she's in the nest and sitting on eggs. The other day an osprey was sitting on a branch in the same tree. We are hoping that there are eggs in the nest and that, when they hatch and grow some, we'll be able to see the babies. Until then, we just aren't sure if this nest is active or abandoned.
We haven't seen any activity here for several days. We are worried, thinking that the nest may have been disbanded. There were several osprey flying in a circular pattern over the area, but none sitting on the nest or in the tree. The four flying overhead left the area after about 10 minutes and didn't return while we were there.

Ricky is presently bringing lots of new twigs to the nest to spruce up the place. Lucy is sticking close to the nest but doesn't appear to be sitting yet.
