Nest #794

Nickname: Indigo II
Nest substrate: Osprey Nest Platform
Nest Location Description: This nest platform was installed last year in an effort to keep an Osprey pair from nesting on the Bimini of my sailboat, Indigo Waters (hence the nest being named Indigo II). The nest was occupied until the birds left during Hurricane Irene. This year a pair arrived on March 2, 2012 and have built a more substantial nest, mated several times and are now sitting on the nest.

Nesting Diaries

Today while working along our dock, my husband noticed that both the male and female were doing something on the nest that we had not observed before. It appears that this activity is occurring deep within the nest and we think the pair may be re-arranging the eggs or turning them.

The nest has been continually occupied since April 3 when the adult(s) appear to have begun the incubation process. We are unable to actually see the eggs due to the nest location but we assume that they have been laid. Both Osprey are less affected by the activity on our dock and they often use the pilings as resting and fishing platforms but they no long use the boat.
