Nesting Diaries

Observed 9:43 to 10:11. 10% cloud cover, no precip. 1 chick at nest, still not fledged but must be close. At 9:49, 2 adults flying nearby, one calling. Eventually flew off.

08/23/2020 by Caylen
Observed 8:45 to 8:55. 70% cloud cover, no precip. No ospreys seen. Looked among trees for adults or possible fledgling, but did not see anything.

08/09/2020 by Caylen
Observed 8:50 to 9:00. 10% cloud cover, no precip. No osprey visible. Could recent storm have affected nest?

08/01/2020 by Caylen
Observed 15:13 to 15:40. 70% cloud cover, no precip. 1 chick visible in the nest, and 1 adult on tower. Adult moved to another point on tower, but both remained for duration of survey.

07/13/2020 by Caylen
Observed 14:11 to 14:21. 0% cloud cover, no precip. One adult (likely female) feeding chick and eating, the other perched near nest. Still can only see one chick, so becoming increasingly more likely there is only one. Still not 100% certain though.

07/08/2020 by Caylen
Observed 13:00 to 13:17. 60% cloud cover, no precip. 1 adult at nest, assumption is the female looking at size. Another adult flew by the nest, but quickly flew on without stopping at nest. At 13:11, nestling was seen reaching up to adult at nest. Still a few weeks out from fledging. Unknown if more nestlings.

06/26/2020 by Caylen
Observed 08:44 to 09:17. 40% cloud cover, no precip. 2 birds at the nest, both adults. Both are just preening and standing over nest.

06/23/2020 by Caylen
Observed 12:30 to 12:50. 30% cloud cover, no precip. At 12:37, could see 1 bird ruffling feathers. After that, could only see its head- appears to be an adult, but difficult to tell.

06/13/2020 by Caylen
Observed 11:20 to 11:39. 0% cloud cover, no precip. Both adults were flying near the nest, and no obvious movement at the nest. One adult flew out of view, while the other went to the nest and could only be seen popping up occasionally from the nest. No signs of young, but they are likely there judging by adult behavior.

05/21/2020 by Caylen
Observed 15:05 to 15:26. 75% cloud cover, no precip. No visibility of any bird on the nest, but an adult flew up a few minutes later onto the edge of the tower. Adult was preening and calling quite a bit during the rest of the survey.

05/16/2020 by Caylen
Observed 18:52 to 19:10. 50% cloud cover, no precip. 1 adult perched near nest. At 19:07, unseen adult on nest flew off, and adult that was perched nearby flew onto nest to take over incubating. Judging by size, adult that flew off nest was likely male.

05/01/2020 by Caylen
Observed 9:10 - 9:28. 100% cloud cover, no precip. Did not have binos on me, so difficult to see nest. Still need to find best parking spot for most ideal observation as well. At 9:24, adult came to nest with fish. Pretty certain male (breast appeared pretty white), and female was on nest for fish delivery. Lots of calling could be heard. At 9:26, the male flew down to lower level of tower.

03/27/2020 by Caylen
At around 13:10, saw 2 adults flying toward tower, one carrying nesting material.
