Nesting Diaries

All three chicks fledged week of August 15th. Still around the nest on August 24th. Lots of practice aerobatics, swooping over and plopping down on water, low buzzes over the cove. Hope they are back next year!

Chicks starting to stretch their wings. A lot of flapping going on!

Confirmed today that there are 3 chicks in the nest. New photo clearly shows the three chicks plus adult. Note the red eyes of the chicks! Adults are bringing in lots of fish these days.

Two young birds showed up mid-summer 2017 and began to build a practice nest" in this spruce tree. They remained quite active through August. When we arrived in mid-June 2018 a pair was coming and going near the nest, but did not appear to be regular attedance or egg laying. Throughout the summer as many as 6 osprey frequented this nest tree, intereacted near the nest, and the nest was enlarged. No nesting activity observed, no fish deliveries, frequent bu not regular nest attendance. When we arrived in mid-June 2019, a sinlge pair was at the nest. The nest was substantially larger than when we last saw it end of summer 2018. A single pair was regularly attending the nest, most visible mornings and evenings. Adult behavior changed noticeably and first (observed) fish delivered to the next on June 24. Since then, regular fish deliveries. Early deliveries appeared to be pogies, first mackerel observed 7-10. Mackerel in the cove near nest.
