Nesting Diaries

As of 2 weeks ago only 2 birds at nest. Mom seems to be gone. I think the other 2 young are nearby. I think we will be empty nesters soon.

They are flying a lot these days- often onl2 at nest.at sunset there were 4 at nest, perhaps the last one came back later. Many times saw them flying in circles overhead “talking” to each other

Red letter day. Banned the chicks- unforgettable! All 3 alive and healthy. Noticed yesterday that mom feels comfortable enough to leave nestlings alone long enough to get them wet grass.

On 7-8 saw one of the chicks on the post rather than the nest, making me think it had flown. But on 7-9 I saw at least one, probably two flying around nest area. Mom joined them and even demonstrated how to dive into the marsh water.

The chicks are getting very large- all 3 look healthy. Mother is doing he4 best to provide shade and wet vegetation to keep chicks cool in these hot days. All 3 nestlings look healthy and active

Definitely 3 chicks all of whom seem strong. They seem curious and at least one is often visible near the edge of nest checking out the world

Things are going well in nest - definitely 2 perhaps nestlings who are showing their heads more regularly. I noticed last weekend that mom n dad are comfortable enough that they don’t need to have one of them in nest with the young at all times, tho one of them is always nearby on the nest post.

Saw both male and female in nest feasting and feeding- saw different activity than in the past and saw a chick head

Visited site on 4/24. Pair inc. Nest leaning, but will wait to fix until after young hatch and are around 2 weeks old. Will post photos shortly.
