Nesting Diaries

An osprey, that looked likely to be a fledgling, came down from the nest and seemed to dig in the dirt (?). Did not seem too weary of my presence less than 10 FT away, but stayed alert.

An adult seen sitting on a telephone pole nearby. One osprey in the nest - fledgling?

Not too much activity today. One adult in the nest, long periods between vocalizations.

Finally have an idea where the male likes to perch near the nest. He appears to sit on the roof of the plaza building.

03/24/2018 by ManaMcD
Both adults in the nest, was hopeful to see where the male's perch is located - but was unable to see where exactly he landed. Plan to try again.

Minimal activity in the nest, female may be laying down? Could hear periodic vocalizations.

03/19/2018 by ManaMcD
Adult osprey (female) in the nest, very little activity with minimal vocalizations.

Female in the nest and interacting with (two?) fledglings, and lots of vocalizations. Materials fell from nest. Male showed up with an impressively large fish and had trouble landing in the nest - it took him two tries!

Adult appeared to be eating a large fish in the nest. It was hard to see if there were one or two adults or any babies in the nest, but heard more than one vocalizing during observations.

First time noticing this nest. Plastic trash appeared to be used as a nesting material along with natural debris. One adult was in the nest and flew away during observations. Landed nearby; lots of vocalizations.
