one juvenile crying for fish on 9-11, but still seeing the adult male into today

09/05/2018 by baygirl
1 juvenile on platform V eating fish at 7:30 am

08/18/2018 by baygirl
entire family present today as i passed in my boat. both fledglings were on the nest- one was eating- and the adult female also on the nest and adult male on the old sign post he so adores.

08/17/2018 by baygirl
both juveniles on the nest today around 5:30. someone flushed them off the nest and both osprey started fishing over our creek. it is so cool to watch them throwing themselves into the water. neither one caught anything but for about 30 minutes they sure tried hard. both adults still at the nest area.

08/03/2018 by baygirl
I am sure these 2 flew before today but today was the first day I saw an empty nest and then about 15 minutes later as I came back past in my boat both were on the nest, one was eating and one adult was also on the nest. This is the first productive season for this nesting pair. really nice to see they made it with the people fishing and crabbing and the kayaker who lets his dog run the beach at the nest site every single day.

one adult clearly visible with what appears to be 2 chicks deep in the nest but too hazy and far to be certain

07/22/2018 by baygirl
just one adult and one chick visible this evening

07/20/2018 by baygirl
one chick clearly visible today with one adult

07/05/2018 by baygirl
2 chicks on the nest with one adult today

06/20/2018 by baygirl
late day boat ride, clearly see 2 chicks at feeding time

06/18/2018 by baygirl
consistently seeing both adults at nest with feeding behavior but can not yet see chcks

06/03/2018 by baygirl
i am continuing to see both at the nest often thru out the day with the female busy feeding. the male spends his free time either on the v perch of the platform or the nearby old sign post at the waters edge. I have my fingers crossed this pair can tolerate the crabbers and kayakers that are surely coming to hang right at the platform in just a week or so.Last season the pair abandoned the nest.

05/21/2018 by baygirl
one appears to be incubating with mate on the sign pole nearby

05/19/2018 by baygirl
7 days of rain and this pair is still on eggs!

05/08/2018 by baygirl
continuing to incubate

04/22/2018 by baygirl
still waiting to see nest bowl prep or something. but both coming and going, some copulating and perching on the V of the platform but no settling in

04/16/2018 by baygirl
12:30 today the nest was empty with a large white bag flapping in the nest. A few minutes later both arrived and picked around the nest.

04/11/2018 by baygirl
8:00 this morning the pair was on the nest, one with a fish, when an immature eagle flew in and I heard an osprey at the nearby nest start the warning call for the colony. quickly an incubating osprey on CM7, the male from Sandy Cove, and the osprey from nearby nest 179 all flew up to help the now chased osprey with fish and they successfully thwarted a fish steal from the young eagle. it was exciting and amazing to see how osprey support one another during a predator provocation. But then, the male from Sandy Cove chased the osprey with the fish back to his nest territory. So the ospreys will support one another against another species but when the battle is won they are back to being adversaries for territory. Great morning on the creek. Who needs TV?

Pair should be incubating soon, both very busy in the nest

04/02/2018 by baygirl
building up the nest, both are very busy all day!

03/29/2018 by baygirl
confirmed the pair is on the nest since yesterday, watched them again today as they both brought nest material. talked to the management about placing signs and educating the community to stay back from the 2 platforms this year, hoping for the best but not holding my breath that these osprey can nest in peace from people walking right up to the platform or spending hours next to it.

03/28/2018 by baygirl
SE Winds at 5 mph, clouds and sun, temp 45. many osprey flying together over the creek with a few challenging the 2 local eagles.this nest had 2 osprey on it along with a pair of osprey on the other 2 nearby platforms. will see if they all remain at the sites.

09/21/2017 by baygirl
end of season: last osprey seen on platform 9-7-17. human activity steadily increasing along the bay beach very close to this platform. risky site.

07/29/2017 by baygirl
Both adults still hanging out on nest or nearby old poles

06/29/2017 by baygirl
I see one adult in nest everyday and often the other on nearby pole with fish, most likely this is the male. they are due for hatchlings.

06/24/2017 by baygirl
one appeared to be still incubating (or warming hatchlings?) at sunset with second adult on the V perch of the platform

06/22/2017 by baygirl
this pair continues to incubate even with the people and stray osprey surrounding them. I expect hatchlings near the end of June, so very late for the little osprey to enter the world.

06/08/2017 by baygirl
This pair is just keeping to the incubating no matter what goes on around them.

05/29/2017 by baygirl
ph my I see the ospreys incubating past few days and there has been a high number of people very close to the platform, the beach area is becoming popular to launch kayaks and SUP.s 5-27-17 a man was flying a small remote airplane over both osprey platforms causing the osprey to leave the nests.

05/25/2017 by baygirl
lots of coming and going to the nest but no nest building, copulating or incubating observed. most likely a sub adult pair just enjoying the creek and marsh.

05/07/2017 by baygirl
both osprey on the nearby sign posts, no incubating

04/29/2017 by baygirl
This platform was placed very close to 179, and last year, the second year 179 was occupied the pair had chicks but did not use 180 for guarding, however Channel marker 7 male did use 180. This year I saw osprey off anf on the nest around 4-24-17 and today all osprey pairs were present on nearby nests so I can confirm a new osprey pair has fought their way onto this platform. Now they use CM7 males other guard post and the male from CM 7 has moved his guard post to a pine tree closer to his platform. So we have a new colony of sorts, 4 platforms all in view of one another and viewable from the end of Sandy Cove Road.
