Nesting Diaries

4:25 PM - nest platform and area empty. No sign of any Osprey. No evidence of nest building.

2:40 PM - One Osprey, and no nest building. 60 degrees F and light rain and breezy

04/16/2020 by LauraLOVESbirds
7:40 AM - Photoed one adult Osprey on nesting platform, with a few branches; but no nest - and so sign of a second Osprey.

Last year (2019) I only saw one Osprey. There was no nesting taking place. I would occasionally see a single Osprey flying around. This week, I saw a single Osprey in the same area, but there doesn’t seem to be any nest building going on on the platform.

Saw one osprey standing on the nest March 22, 2019

7:20pm: Not on nest again, and still without mate. Again perched on ball field light, feasting on fish

06/09/2018 by LauraLOVESbirds
7:59am: Lone adult perched on ball field light behind second base and eating fish for duration of my 40 minute stay. Briefly vocalized once. Nest on nearby platform seems too short/unfinished for young. I photoed nest from 3 sides and only saw flies. Did not see or hear osprey’s mate. :(

8:12am: Adult Osprey was on nest above ball field, and later perched at light above first base. From there, vocalized, and later napped. (Used both lights like this last year too.)

Tide is constantly at the nest. I think she might lay eggs soon.

The Ospreys lived!!!

I'm worried about the nest. Chesapeake is curently on another tronado warning. I'll report again next time I see the nest site.

Today I am happy to report that both Tide and Typhoon have survived the recent tornadoes and hail in this area.

I first noticed the nest sometime in late February or early March... but I guess Margy beat me to reporting it. The nest is right by my house so I often see the male (I'm not going to call him 'the male'. I shall dub him 'Typhoon'.) returning to the nest with a meal for his mate (who I have dubbed 'Tide'). I'll be sure to post again if I notice eggs or other activity. (I'm only a teen, so bear with me please.)
