Nesting Diaries

Have watched ospreys for about a month. An adult was sitting on nest every time I would go to and from work from Middletown to Harrisburg in recent weeks. Yesterday and today (Aug 3 and 4), on my way home and to work, both adults were on utility pole next to the one that has the nest, sharing a large fish.

Spotted adult osprey atop utility pole about 1/2 mile from an established osprey nest in Steelton, near the Susquehanna River. Osprey had a small pile of sticks under foot. Several minutes later a second adult osprey arrived with another footful of sticks and proceeded to arrange them. This nest is in the very earliest stage of construction - so far just a small collection of sticks. Probably too late for successful nesting this year, but will watch for continued activity.
