Nesting Diaries
The count of the nestlings is down to 1. When there were 2, I noticed that one was a bit smaller than the other and wasn't quite as aggressive with meal-time. I thought they both appeared healthy. The remaining nestling appears very active and curious. When Pylia or Pandion fly, she/he intently watches them.
We are down to 2 chicks. They do look happy and healthy.
Just saw Pylia feeding not 1 but 3 babies as Pandion watches over. One is quite aggressive in getting most of the food while number 2 and number 3 await their share. It does appear that all 3 are receiving food.
Just saw the first baby poking his/her head out of the nest. I can't tell is there is more than one at this point.
For the past week, there has always been one of the adults in the nest. Since I am new at this, I can't help but assume that there are eggs in the nest.
I believe that we are in the incubation stage, though Pylia and Pandion take turns to sit deep inside the nest, I am unable to see their position very well.
I shall call them Pandion and Pylia. Now if I can only learn to tell which is which.
There used to be a dilapidated gazebo at the end of this jetty. The nest was on the top of the gazebo, last year. In October, the Gazebo was taken down, but the jetty remains. Someone put a platform at the end of the jetty around the 1st of March. Osprey began to build their nest almost immediately after the platform was placed.
