03/18/2019 by baygirl
female visiting nest and perching on the satellite/guard perch most of the day

08/26/2018 by baygirl
hearing not seeing a juvenile at this nest site as the birds have moved into the pines.adult male sometimes seen eating on snag close at entrance to Fred Hudson Rd. Calling it a season as I can not get a good vantage point.

08/17/2018 by baygirl
juveniles are now spending most of their time in the pines and chasing other youngsters around the pond. adult male still visible but adult female has not been seen recently.

07/28/2018 by baygirl
both fledges on nest this morning with an interloper visiting them in the afternoon

07/24/2018 by baygirl
2 growing healthy looking chicks standing in the nest today with one adult on the platform t perch

07/22/2018 by baygirl
2 chicks heads visible in the nest around 6 pm this evening, no adults seen or heard. one laughing gull flying close over the nest harassing the chicks. i dont like seeing no adult guarding the nest area.

07/15/2018 by baygirl
5:50 pm, 2 chicks visible but laying down while the adult female was eating. chicks not interested in the fish so i am assuming they are well fed.

07/05/2018 by baygirl
one chick visible in the nest today with adult female on perch calling for a fish

06/25/2018 by baygirl
Adult female on nest rim today, appeared to be finishing up feeding with 2 active chicks flipping around the nest. I may have seen a third smaller chick, not quite sure.

06/18/2018 by baygirl
female shading, could not see chicks but homeowner reports he has seen 2 tiny heads in the nest thus far

06/10/2018 by baygirl
both adult at nest with female feeding today around 2:00 pm

06/07/2018 by baygirl
feeding behavior is observed with the male staying on or near the nest most of the day, female is brooding and very fussy at the nest and occasionally making quick trips to get nest material

06/05/2018 by baygirl
female very very fussy again in the nest today, up and down, changing positions, digging under her chest. hmm, this is a mystery but hatchlings are imminent if not already here...I love the mystery of an osprey nesting pair!

06/04/2018 by baygirl
i saw the pair switch out duties in the nest, with the male bring fish, female take fish to the satilitte perch so I may be early on the hatching date! Will adjust it if necessary..

06/02/2018 by baygirl
Definite hatchling behavior today with the female hunched in the nest, very fussy deep under her chest, repositioning often.

05/19/2018 by baygirl
the pair is doing well, incubating in a deep nest. expect chicks this coming week

04/21/2018 by baygirl
Property owner text me at 11:00 today to say he saw the female osprey laying deep in the nest for past few hours. At 3:00 and again at 5:30 I confirmed incubation behavior. She did get up a few times to dig in the nest bowl and reposition. I feel confident she now has eggs and for the fist time in 3 years a relatively safe nest location as long as the GRHO stay far away.

04/20/2018 by baygirl
female digging deep in the nest both times I stopped to check the platform today. The male was on a far sang by the entrance to the community having a fish around 12:30. I think egg laying should be very soon now.

04/07/2018 by baygirl
The pair is spending a lot of time on the nest, bringing nest material and seemingly living in harmony with the neighbors next door at North Beach.

04/04/2018 by baygirl
consistently seeing the pair at the nest with next door neighbor osprey accounted for also so I am confident this pair finally has a real nest for the 2018 season.

04/02/2018 by baygirl
This pair was coming and going for a few days, scuffling with other ospreys but today I believe they are truly home. All other pairs nearby were also accounted for so I will say they are staying...they do go back to the snag area closer to their last seasons failed nest to eat or perch. Around 1:00 today one was on the t perch and the other in the nest facing into the 10 mph wind.

03/24/2018 by baygirl
1 osprey on the platform T perch eating a fish around 4 pm today.

03/22/2018 by baygirl
A pair was on the nest today for an hour or so.

09/21/2017 by baygirl
there was some activity at the nest with both adults bringing new nest material. the adult female last seen 8-28-17 and adult male last seen 9-15-17 as he remained to guard his large snag area at the corner of Fred Hudson Rd and Rt. 1...its a favorite visiting spot for migrating osprey so he may still be in the area!

08/03/2017 by baygirl
past few days the osprey pair has been off and on the nest, the female is bringing nest material. there has been some aggressive fly bys and touch and goes from others but so far it appears the ospreys who nested at that location a few years ago, and who lost their snag nest there, are back home. sure hope they arrive again safely next spring.

07/30/2017 by baygirl
I got reports from the homeowner yesterday that soon after the platform was up the osprey pair was checking it out with flyovers and short stays on the corner boards. Today I saw for myself at 3:15 when I stopped to watch and saw the female on the nest with a big fish and her mate was on his favorite nearby tree also with a fish, then later he joined her. I am waiting to see nest building before she migrates for the winter. This looks promising, finally this poor pair has a nest site that may produce some young.

07/29/2017 by baygirl
Parks and Rec permission for a new 13 ft tall platform, it was installed this morning for this pair that has lost at least 3, possibly 4, nests at same general location past few seasons. as we walked away from the nesting platform one adult was flying overhead and later both adults landed on the platform returned at least twice throughout the afternoon. hope they bond with this new nest and return for a successful 2018 season.

07/10/2017 by baygirl
7-05-16 I drove past the nest and noted one adult and 2 approximate 4 week old chicks in the nest. 7-6-17 I drove past in a heavy rain and the nest was standing but I just was able to see one adult in the nest. I did not return to check the nest until 7-10-17 as I was part of an osprey chick rehoming project with 2 separate nest sites and did not get back to this site for a few days. When I drove up to the nest site there was no nest. It appeared to have fallen with not a trace of the snag left standing. I called a homeowner nearby and he said the nest fell sometime during the storm on 7-6-17 or early 7-7-17. Of course I wished he had called me as often the chicks do survive falls. But since it had been at least 4 full days of sun and hear I did not attempt to search for the chicks in the dense phragmites and marsh grass. I knew this tree nest was coming down but had hoped it would be in October. Now we will start the process to get a platform approved for the site as this pair has lost at least 3 and more likely 4 nests and 2 sets of chicks. They are due for a platform so that the locals do not have to witness the snag carnage.

06/29/2017 by baygirl
I see feeding as I drive by but the nest is on an angle that will make it tough to see the chicks for a little while longer

06/21/2017 by baygirl
I am seeing feeding behavior and the adult male bringing fish regularly but the angle of the nest will make it hard to see chicks for awhile.

05/25/2017 by baygirl
incubating and getting a lot of attention

05/22/2017 by baygirl
this nest is causing quite a stir with cars stopping on the narrow road to photograph and stare. the male stays on the nearby numerous snags and is super visible flying in with a fish for his mate. she is hard to see deep in the nest but he draws the attention.

05/10/2017 by baygirl
observed the pair switch incubation duties today

05/01/2017 by baygirl
plastic bag flapping in the breeze, one deep in the nest and one eating a fish on a nearby snag.

04/26/2017 by baygirl
no incubating, I saw both sitting on the nest today, earlier just one on the nearby snag, hope they get to it soon before the tree falls over....argh. we have to get this pair a suitable platform soon.

04/25/2017 by baygirl
day 2 of heavy rain with poor visibility but I believe this pair is incubating. I saw the white head pop up out of the nest as I drove past. te mate was on the nearby snag. will try to confirm tomorrow and check other nests to see how the rain has affected the nesters

04/24/2017 by baygirl
both osprey hang out in the large nest and occasionally they are on the nearby snags eating fish, no incubating yet

04/18/2017 by baygirl
just before sunset both osprey were perched on nearby snags

04/17/2017 by baygirl
busy copulating and building this scary nest...oh boy, I hope it holds.

04/10/2017 by baygirl
this pair is getting quite a bit of attention because they are right on a very busy road. the leaning snag now has a much larger nest and the pair is getting their photos taken! but I am concerned that the nest get so big it falls. both osprey continue to fly to the tree area where a number of snag nests came down the past few years so I am betting its the same unlucky pair, maybe this will be their nesting season.

04/02/2017 by baygirl
Well the snag directly on Fred Hudson Rd did not fall over the winter and the past few days I have seen at least one bird on it or nearby on a snag eating. Today 2 birds were in the nest and it is considerably bigger...oh boy..gonna be interesting summer with this nest leaning so horribly and also right on a busy road with lots of bikers and runners.

12/27/2016 by baygirl
The adult pair from this series of donwed nest sites has now built a very spindly nest in a snag directly on Fred Hudson Rd almost at the corner of RT 1. I sure hope it falls before 2017!

05/22/2016 by baygirl
No nest site and lately no birds perched on the snags.

05/08/2016 by baygirl
No new nest site but they are still on the snags eating and hopefully minding their own business until we can get them a proper platform built!

04/20/2016 by baygirl
Pair has not found a new site to nest and so they are spending time in the very short snags along Fred Hudson and the corner of RT.1

04/06/2016 by baygirl
Since 4-1-16 one and then 2 birds have been perching in the snags along corner of Fred Hudson and Rt.1 as well as in the loblolly pines near where last years nest had been. I believe this is the same pair that has been unsuccessful in raising chicks the past 2 years. They are doing flyovers perhaps searching for a suitable nest site?

03/29/2016 by baygirl
3 different snag nests destroyed by storms from 2014 through 2015 nesting seasons.

I could not see any signs of this nest

03/08/2016 by deldave
no activity to report today
