Sad news to report about one of the 3 fledglings from this year's brood; the young osprey was found dead at the foot of a utility pole, on the far edge of our complex's property, near the water. After noticing strange behavior from the other 2 fledglings - as in, not being in the nest for more than a day, but rather perched atop the utility pole - I decided to walk over to the utility pole area, and with the parents circling overhead, I observed the dead young osprey (I've enclosed pictures). I, along with a Virginia Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries Warden, surmised that the youth electrocuted him/herself and fell to the ground. Rather than dispose of the body, I let the "circle of life" take its course, and after several days of heat and rain, all that remains of the carcass are feathers and talons.
