Nesting Diaries

Pair spotted back at the tower site. Hoping they can rebuild the nest after the Fire Department had the old nest removed and added spikes & wires to the tower to try keep them away.

11/04/2016 by KB1JHU
Stratford FD hired contractor to remove nest again. They also added features to the tower to try keep them from rebuilding next year. This is the 3rd time a contractor has been hired to do this, at a cost of approximately $4000 of taxpayer money each time.

Pair has left for the season, probably 2 weeks ago.

05/29/2016 by KB1JHU
Based on recent behavior, it's possible the pair has an egg. I have not yet been able to confirm this.

05/21/2016 by KB1JHU
The pair has managed to rebuild the nest pretty well considering the platform is gone. A large number of stick were always falling. The fire department made the problem worse for themselves!

04/27/2016 by KB1JHU
The pair has been trying to rebuild the nest but the contractor that removed the nest also removed the grates from the top of the tower leaving no platform. Hopefully the pair can engineer something and rebuild.

Nest was once again removed by a contractor hired by the fire department. 2 adults occupied the nest and were exhibiting mating behavior.

04/22/2016 by KB1JHU
Observed 2 osprey perched on the antennas of the tower at 1230 this morning. Nest continues to get larger.

04/21/2016 by KB1JHU
First observed one adult at the site on 4/11/16. Have only observed one at any given time. Nest has been getting rebuilt.

Nest has been removed from the tower by a contractor hired by the Stratford Fire Department. The birds had left at least a month ago for wintering grounds.
