Female Osprey on dead tree on opposite side of road. Male arrives with small stick, but drops it. A few stick in the tree but not a nest. One of the branches in the tree has fallen during the week.
Let's hope they rebuild. This has been a productive pair for many years. I hope the storm doesn't prevent them from nesting this year. They still have time...
Main trunk of the tree and the nest have been destroyed (presumably in storms of 4/6). Only one dead and fragile looking trunk of the tree remains. Female Osprey perched on this with a sick on her talons. Possible re-build?
Female on nest, not very low. Male arrives with nest material, arranges it & flies off. Female moves to side of nest, then flies off to get nesting material, settling back on the nest. Male returns, copulation takes place. He flies off.
One juvenile in nest, other perched just above. Female nearby, male in nearby tree. Juvenile perched above flies off and around for a couple of minutes then returns to the nest. Shortly after, male delivers fish which the 1st juvenile starts to eat. A few minutes later male delivers another fish giving the 2nd juvenile a meal. Successful parenting!
Female on nest, male to the side. Female flies off, Male moves to nest after 2-3 mins. Female returns to nest after about 5 minutes and displaces Male at the center. Seems to shade the chicks. Male then flies off and returns with nesting material.
One bird in nest, definitely attending to something in the nest, head up and down. Then settles low - still eggs to incubate?. Other bird in nearby tree.
7 Apr - Nest empty. After about 10 mins saw an eagle soaring around the nest. Ospreys were nearby.
6 Apr - One bird perched near side of nest, other nearby, then joins her.
Jul 10 - Two chicks out of the nest. One still inside with female. Male in tree about 50 yards away. Three chicks for sure.
Jul 7 - Four birds in the nest at first. One/two fly off leaving 2 visible juveniles.
Jul 1 - Four birds in the nest! Looks like 1 adult female and 3 juveniles? (See photo)
Jun 24 - Chicks not visible. Female at side of nest, then flies off, returning to perch nearby.
Jun 9 - Female perched on side of nest, shading chicks. Two chicks visible.
Jun 17 - Adult birds flying around, and doing some maintenance on the nest. Chicks quite large. Two visible.
Jun 2 - Female flies off as I approach, returns 5 mins later with stick. Perches back on nest.
Jun 3 - Nest vacant at first, and remains so for about 10-15 mins. Female returns with fish and starts eating it. Not seen feeding chicks. She then flies off again and returns a few minutes later. Concerned at what this might mean for the chicks, but then she perches back on nest, and 2 chicks are seen.
Male has been bringing fish over the last few days. Female feeding the chicks and herself. Occasionally male has flown off with the fish. Female seems to be shading the chicks from the sun. Chicks still not visible from below.
May 16 - Female sat off to the side of the nest with head bobbing down into it. Then settles down low on nest.
May 19 - Female perched on side of nest, male about 2 feet away. Male flies off and returns about 10 mins later - feeding chicks?
May 20 - Female on nest, male delivers fish, she tears it up. No chicks visible.
Not much change in activity over that last 2 weeks, with one bird sat low in nest. On May 12th noisy activity nearby seemed to disturb the birds. Male(?) flying around keeping his eye on things. Female(?) left nest for about 10 minutes at one point.
May 13th Noticed the bird on the nest bobbing its head down regularly. Possibly dealing with chicks? Other bird (male?) landed on the nest for 3-4 minutes and flew off again.
After not observing for 2 weeks. noticed bird sitting low on nest, presumably incubating. Partner perched nearby. This was on April 21st. Similar behavior seen today (28th ).
