1255 - First of year observation of OSPR pair on nest.

04/04/2019 by turtleguy
No OSPRs seen at this nest so far this year.

04/15/2018 by turtleguy
Hello Mignon! If interested, please establish email contact with me (Mike) at cotinga51@comcast.net. I follow 5 nests on the east side of the sound (U.P. & Steilacoom). So I have 5 pairs within 2.5 miles of each other. Possible they could cross the sound, but more likely you have multiple pairs on your side, as well.

My nest on Fox Island (#6913) had 4 osprey fighting over it April 9. One pair stayed. Perhaps it is the same 2 pair?

04/11/2018 by turtleguy
After 4 days of daily checks with no osprey around the nest, today both birds are standing on the nest! Late arrival this year.

04/06/2018 by turtleguy
Four ospreys observed circling and chirping around nest. Several attempts by one or more osprey to land on nest, but always chased off by another. All 4 osprey circled high and distant, only to return and continue squabbling over the nest. At end of observation, all osprey had departed the area, without any nest occupation.

04/07/2017 by turtleguy
Two osprey seen on nest platform, first time this year for the pair.

04/04/2017 by turtleguy
One osprey on light pole south of nest.

04/02/2017 by turtleguy
No osprey seen during 15 minute observation. School groundskeepers have placed plastic coyote decoys on the ball fields below the nest, probably to discourage geese.

03/31/2017 by turtleguy
First osprey seen at nest this year. Only one bird at this time

07/06/2016 by turtleguy
One hatchling found by grounds maintenance crew on ground under nest. No significant feathering on body and wing feathers still completely in pin. Well behind development of other hatchling.

04/07/2016 by turtleguy
No ospreys seen at, on, or in the vicinity of this nest since the one bird two days ago. Twice daily checks continue.

04/05/2016 by turtleguy
0730 this morning, 1 osprey sitting on edge of nest. First bird seen at this nest this season. 1830 this evening, no bird seen in vicinity.

04/02/2016 by turtleguy
Daily checks continue. No ospreys yet.

03/30/2016 by turtleguy
Daily observations for the past week. No ospreys seen yet. Nest has a clump of grass growing in center, now about 1 foot tall. The other 3 osprey nests in the area now have one bird at each nest, newly arrived today.

07/31/2015 by turtleguy
During the past week, both juvs continue to vigorously wing-flap on the nest, but I have not observed any flights. Fledging should happen any day.

06/24/2015 by turtleguy
Returning home after being out of town for a month, I see two nestlings in the nest with the female. Still in pin feathers, but mostly dark in color, the nestlings have their heads up and one was observed backing to the edge of the nest and muting over the side. Hatching date unknown.

05/03/2015 by turtleguy
1600 - Incubation continues. Female down in the nest with only her head showing.

04/30/2015 by turtleguy
0815 - one osprey down low in the nest, looks to be in incubation position. Six minute observation, during which time the osprey in the nest did not change positions.

04/28/2015 by turtleguy
Daily checks of this nest continue. At 1130 today, both ospreys are perched on the light pole to the north of the nest. No incubation yet.

04/22/2015 by turtleguy
No incubation yet. Both ospreys were perched on an adjacent light pole this morning, 45 meters to the south of the nest.

04/22/2015 by turtleguy
This nest is 2,300 meters from the nearest "fishable" body of water, and that is very near osprey nest #484. Other potential fishing areas are all in the vicinity of other osprey nests and are at least 2,600 meters away.

04/22/2015 by turtleguy
Note for 58florene. I see we are both watching this nest and #484 at the golf course. I would like to coordinate with you for on-going observations. Please email me at turtleguy1@comcast.net. I live in UP. Thx

This year, I began checking on this nest on April 2, with visits almost every day. On April 15, I observed one osprey standing on the nest, and saw both birds on the nest on April 16. On April 22, I observed copulation at the nest.

04/26/2014 by turtleguy
I was told about this nest in August of 2013, and first observed it on August 14, 2013, when there were two fully feathered juveniles in the nest, and one adult perched on the next light pole, 40 m to the south. One juv was flapping its wings and appeared to be about to fledge. Two days later, there was only one juv in the next. I assume fledging occurred somewhere around Aug 15, 2013.

04/26/2014 by turtleguy
April 24, 2014 - Both adults standing on nest. The male has a small fish, and flies to another light pole to feed. Female lifts off nest and circles down and grabs a piece of clothing from the football field surface (no people on the ball field at that time), and struggles to gain altitude, circling and circling slowly upward until finally making it back to the nest. The clothing appears to be either a pair of sweat pants or perhaps a small warm up jacket. It appears it will now be part of the nest. No incubation activity observed.

04/26/2014 by turtleguy
Today the female is laying deep down in the nest, obviously in an incubating position. I observed her for 30 minutes and she did not change position. In this position, only the top of her head and eyes are visible above the nest lip, and this only from the east parking lot. She cannot be seen in the nest from the north parking lot or from the exit road to the west of the football field.
